I need your help. Especially those who have found this site within the last year. Please tell me as specifically as you can, how you found this website. If it was in a search engine, tell me what keywords you used, and what search engine it was. If it was through another website, tell me if it was listed under links of interest or written in a blog. If it was through a press release, I need to know which press release company, and the name of the press release.
There is a lot of outreach to be done to spouses of Alzheimer patients, and I need to know what has been the best avenue.
Joan, I read about your site at Alzheimers Association.org, way back in 2007. That seems like a lifetime ago. I would NOT have survived these last 3 1/2 years without Joan's website. This family we have formed has helped me make it through this horrendous disease and kept my sanity (for the most part). I have developed friendships that I will keep forever. Thank you, Joan!
I was looking on Google for blogs dealing with Alzheimer's (planning to start one myself) and I probably used as keywords "blog" and "Alzheimers". I found this site and have never needed to search further, or to start a blog.
I believe that someone on one of the Alz Association boards actually made a reference to you and your site and, thankfully, I checked it out. This site has been my source of comfort and resources since. Sue
This website was referred to on another Alzheimer's forum. If I remember correctly, it was in a posting by Sunshyne, and maybe there was one by New Realm.
In the early days, I was desperate for information and did a lot of searching on the web. I put the words "alzheimer's" and "spouse" in the Google search box, and your website popped up (I think it was shortly after you started it, Joan.) However, at that time I didn't know what message boards were, only read the blogs and looked at the home page. Later on, someone at the Alz Association told me about their message boards, I checked them out, and came back here to look at your boards. Been hooked since! I have told many people about it, how it is my everyday support group.
DH's daughter found it for me during her research. I think it was a link through Alzheimers Assn, but not sure. I joined in Jan. '09, when I was at my wit's end and it's just been a lifesaver for me. All I need to know is here in Joan's blogs and these message boards. Bless you all!
I found this board from a reference by someone on the Alz.org forums and I believe it was one of Sunshyne's posts. Early November 2008. I'm so glad I did and I rarely check the alz.org forums but check-in here at least twice a day. Thanks so much for starting this site and being a lifesaver.
I believe I found this site through the Alz Assn. Not really sure because I have caregivers dementia!!!! All I know for sure is I am so glad I found it and have not checked the Alz Assn site since. From my profile I joined this site in June 2008 so that was after DH was Dx'd in September 2007.
I did a search on all the search engines I could think of. As long as I had alzheimer and spouse in the search this site always showed up. I found out about it on alz. assoc. site. Probably sunshine's posting.
I was going to another site, where I met Starling. She told me about AlzSpouse and poked at me to check it out. I came. I lurked for about a week and then I joined in.
I'm pretty sure I was also lured over by someone plugging this site over at Alz.org. (let me add though...I USUALLY find things by googlesearching, and would have inputted "Alzheimer's" and "spouse" or "marriage.")
I found it through the suggestion of a lady I met at a support group I went to. I only met her one time & only went to the support group about 3 times (the facilitator passed away). It was the best suggestion I ever received & I'm glad I looked it up!
Was reading Alz.org and it was suggested I might be interested in this site. I was and am. Thank you so much. I've shared it with gp and neurologist and support group as well as friends.
I knew from being on another support group for myself that there was probably a website that had a support group for dealing with dementia. I got on bing search engine and got on one support group for people with dementia(I can't remember the name of the site) and it said that spouses have different issues dealing with dementia than others do and that alzheimerspouses would be a better support group for me and so here I am and they were right. I have never had to do any further searching since.
Ebay...I was trying to list my dw on ebay, and when I searched for categories and description, I googled alzheimer's spouse for sale, and your site came up....
Actually, I was chatting on the alzheimers chatroom, and got tired of seeing everyone just say hello....and someone suggested your site, and I became an instant fan....and I did not get any bids on ebay..
I found it by googling I think, caregiver dementia prevents me from remembering a whole lot of details. It was a time of information hunger and detail overload. I started out thinking he had Alz and then we got the dx of FTD and was so glad I could stay :o)
I did a Google search for ALZHEIMER'S INFORMATION. At that time I had not even thought that there might be a website for spouses..caregivers etc. Loved it from the minute I saw it. The spouse has saved me many times. Have recommended to many, including to my PCP, for her and her patients.
I was on the Alzheimer Association site and asked if anyone there was caring for a spouse (most were caring for parents). Sunshyne directed me to this site and I have been forever grateful.
I was reading an article in a magazine, don't remember which one, back in late 2007 or early 2008 and it mentioned this site. When I first started reading the posts DH did not fit in. After about six months he started to have some of the same problems. He was no where near Sid was. Now he has zoomed way past Sid. I have oftened wonder if some of those trials he was in may have helped him. DH is now in the hospital with aspiration pneumonia.
i was at the end of my rope trying to find someone to chat with online needing to talk and know what others were thinking and coping, by some act of God this site came up and the rest is history, i guess i must have googled anything and everything on Alzhemiers
I found your site by google..just googled in Alz and all the different sorts of websites popped up, this one on the list. Checked it out and decided to stay.
Sunshyne on the Alz forum. I was only on for about a year before Claude passed on, but the information here was invaluable to me and was one of the things that kept me sane those last few months.
I hate to admit I don't totally remember either...but I think I first went to alz.org and then found myself on a "general" alz. chat room which referred me to this one; I immediately knew that Joan's site was what I needed. That was about 2 yrs ago. Thank you Joan!
I was beside myself with my DH behavior and was doing another round of internet searching. I use a program called Dogpile. Dogpile came up with a discussion from your site with similiar symptoms as I had typed in to search. This was probably 3 or so years ago.
A rockhound friend, Texaussie, initially steered me to the Alzheimer Association site in mid 2008, where Sunshyne subsequently steered me to this Spouse forum.
