JeanetteB, our favorite niece is always recounting fond recollections of growing up in Oak Harbor -- probably during the 1970s and early 1980s -- where her father worked for Brush Beryllium (or maybe Brush Wellman by that time).
Where am I from? Well lotsa places. However, I was born in New York City, spent my childhood in Washington, DC and Mexico City. Went to school in Texas, Pennsylvania, New York. Lived as an adult in New York, Massachussetts, California, Nevada and now in Florida.
Jerry - never knew Albuquerque was at such a high elevation, always figured it was around sea level. That was until a few years ago we drove up to the top of the hill (a tram goes up it too). The view was outstanding and the breeze was cold (in May). Welcome to our site.
Charlotte - Albuquerque is about 5000 ft. and higher in the foothills of the east side. We are actually on the east side of the Sandia's on the opposite side from the tram.
JeanetteB I live within 1/2 hour from Oak Harbor,Ohio and have been to apple festival many times. There's where one can always go for a good time.Do you remember Van Etta's (sp)? Ann
Ann, you had written before that you were not far from Oak Harbor, and I wanted to respond but I lost track of the thread. I have booked a flight; we will be visiting my mother in Oak Harbor that week. Would you like to try to get together? My email is listed on my account. I have fond memories of Van Atta's from my high school days, but it's no longer there. There is an informal little restaurant where "everybody" goes out for an inexpensive supper: "Kozy Korner" where you come into town on Rt. 163. Where do you live in Toledo?
Redbud, I have followed your posts because you seem to be close to the same stages as me. Dh's neuro. is near Baylor-Dallas but I wish we could go to Southwestern because from what I read their place sounds more qualified on AD. Don't get me wrong, I like this Dr. and changing now probably would not accomplish anything. Getting to Southwestern would make me have to drive all the way across Dallas and that is too terrifying. Opp's I'm getting OT. Sweet Pea
Hi, PatL! Are you also in a situation where your spouse has EOAD? My wife is 63. Click on my name and you can get more information and email me offsite! Nice to meet you, PatL!
Acvann - No, my DH is not EOAD. He's 78 and I think he may be in Stage 5 or 6. I didn't really recognize AD in the beginning.
I clicked into your name, but there was so email listed.
Dealing with this disease is not an easy thing is it? I've passed through the stages of denial and anger, and now am in total acceptance. Not that it's any easier. I've just stopped battling with myself.
Hmm ... maybe only clicking on one's own name reveals that kind of account information. Sorry!! I'm trying to hook up with others who are in a similar situation such as mine ... whose spouses are EOAD. I went to the one spouse/caregiver support group just started by The Alz. Assoc. in Ronkonkoma, but they do not as yet have a support group available at the same time for people with EOAD ... despite their website stating that they do! My wife and I currently travel to Port Washington to attend the LIAF support groups for early to moderate stage AD and these groups are terrific. Hope you are finding support somewhere near where you live out east! Your husband is further along than my wife, but already I can tell you that I agree with you ... it definitely is NOT easy! Keep hanging tough, PatL!!
