When you post to the Azspouse group on facebook, it's an entirely different place than where you post on your own "wall." It has its own wall; discussions are separate. It's a private group so no one will see its contents unless they become a member, and I don't approve a membership until I know who's asking.
  1.
I found my way to the "group". Lower right-hand side, click on the two heads (groups)--then click on "azspouse" or the picture of the flower. I was clicking on everything else and getting nowhere.

Weejun, you have to accept some friends to see how Facebook works. The Spouse folks are safe and you can find us in the Azspouse group, so you know we are us. And you should accept one or two people from your own family. Once there are some friends the entire thing opens up.

Lori, I found that group icon myself this morning too. It was always there, but I expected it to be in the menu area. There are some other icons there as well. I pushed the photos and got all of the photos of everyone I had befriended. I'm just beginning to find my way on Facebook, so that might be why I understand why you have to have accepted some friends to figure it out. It was amazing how different the site looked once I'd done that.

The sunflower was because I didn't have any pictures of yellow roses, which is what we were talking about when I started it.

You just have to poke around and explore.

Facebook is for chit chat - not serious like here. As others said, nice to see pics of each other. Just another 'light' communication outlet.

I joined it cause my son and his wife wanted me too. They post pics of the kids on there. She deleted me as a friend when i finally got fed up with her trashing my sister - the person that is keeping a roof over their head when they can't pay rent. I told her she needs to tell the whole story, not just her frustration. Got real mad and deleted me. Oh well!! I can just imagine what she has posted about me since.

    HELP! HELP! HELP!

I am being solicited continually via e-mail by strangers who saw me on Facebook, and I don't even know my own username and password. How can I stop people from contacting me? How can I find out what my username and password are?

I don't mind if members of my website contact me, but it's kind of creepy getting all of these strange e-mails. If they e-mail me specifically about Alzheimer spouse issues, I would answer, but the e-mails are giving no information, so I have been ignoring them. I don't have time for Facebook anyway. Everyone knows what I am doing by logging onto the home page of my website.

Sorry Joan you are getting all these. YOu can go to the very lower right hand corner and click on help. then search for forgot password and it will have links. You might want to just delete your account. we would miss you but as you said, you don't have time for this.

I don't use an important email account on facebook or any other sight that is not secure. I have a netzero account I use and if I really do not want any contact I have a yahoo account that gets over 2000 a month of spam. I just check in occasionally and delete all.
  2.
We understand Joan. Given the time involved I agree it might be best to just turn it off via Charlotte's instruction and we will all see you
    here on your site.

Well, I seem to have been set up with a bunch of you as friends but I still don't know what I'm doing. I have no clue about most by the real names with the invitations. I also don't like how I get all this stuff from other peoples activity showing on my page. It's just so "busy" and I feel like I have to make the time to read everything that comes on the page :). Not sure I'm liking the FB experience but plan to give it a few more days. Have a friend coming over to help me decipher it all.

Weejun, if you put your mouse over to the "right" of where something "posts" on your wall, you can "hide" it so you won't have to "look at" all that stuff ~ I agree, it's pretty busy...I don't go to facebook often, but when I do, I usually enjoy it for a bit :)

Phranque - HILARIOUS! LOL on your comment from page 2...I enjoy THIS site and especially a good LOL :)

Weejun, about everyone else's stuff showing up on your page, it is there so you can see what everyone else is up to. I don't comment on any of the stuff unless I think I've got something to say. Just look at it and let it flow right over me.

Right now everyone is having a good time playing games. I think, from seeing my daughter's page, that in time that will stop. It is all light hearted fun. This place, in fact all forums, are for more serious conversation.

If you hate it, give it up. Or just visit once in a while.
  3.
ditto Starling. I seldom comment on FP. Just visit once in a while. Enjoy the pictures but not much on the games. My computer hones in on this site most of the day.

Games, did somebody say games? I love to play games -- will have to check that feature out.

Thanks for the tips and help, ya'll. I suppose I'm overly anal about things. One thing that concerns me is how anybody on FB can see anybody else's page. For example, I found my neighbor's page and from there could get to her family/friends pages, and from there to their family/friends pages, etc. Sort of reminds me of how STDs are transmitted :-)

Still evaluating if I want to "play". And, there is the privacy issue since I put my real name on FB.

No way, divvi. We'll always be here and hope you are too! What would we do without this forum????
  4.
Weejun, like you I'm a novice but in playing around, I discovered I can separate my "friends" into groups. On your home page on the left side is a list "photos, status updates, links, etc." At the bottom of this list find "create". This allows you to separate what shows up. I have separated my "friends" list into "azspouse" and "relatives" which covers almost everyone there. I hope I made myself understood.

For the most part, I just lurk and look at everyone's pictures.

    - - - - - - - - - - - HOW TO ACHIEVE PERMANENT DELETION - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    Go to this page:
    http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account

Click "Submit" and follow the instructions.

Your account will be deactivated for two weeks, and if you don't log in during that period, your account is permanently deleted.

This method is official and should be complete, i.e. no need to delete individual photos, comments, messages or items from your profile or anywhere else on Facebook!
  5.
Joan, go to setting in the upper right hand corner; then scroll down to the bottom of that and it says "deactivate account". I guess that might do it.

Weejun - if go under privacy settings, if you click on 'news feed and wall' , unclick 'show wall post'. This way your post will only show up on your friends. Under profile change all to 'only friends'. This way only your friends will see your post.

When you can see friends and their friends post it is because they have it set for anyone to see.

How much anyone can see is dependent on how your set things. When we go from our home page to others facebook you will be able to read what their 'friends' have posted but should not be able to go to any of their 'friends' home page unless they have set so anyone can see it. Hope this helps.
  6.
I'm getting invitations to accept ________ as my friend. MOst of the time, I don't know who they are, because of our screen names on this site.

I don't want to be rude to people, but I don't open my door to people I don't know...and same goes for here. I have loved seeing pictures of all of you... It's great to put a face on a name. Did someone say they found a picture of Marsh?? I couldn't find that one. Claire is so cute, and so is Weejun. (Everyone is cute!! what am I saying??)
  7.
I also accepted lots of people to be my friend, and they truly are. But, I am bombarded with requests for mafia wars, hugs, drinks, iq tests, and the millions of other silly requests online...Yes they are cute and enjoyable. but I prefer not to receive them. I will read the posts if I want, but do not need 65 emails a day telling me that someone was added as a friend of a friend of a friend. I am trying to figure out how to set the settings so I do not receive all the news and posts. I may have to delete some friends, and keep them in the azspouse group. So if you are deleted as a friend, please understand that you are still my friend and I am here for you when you need me. But I really do not have the time to sort thru all the requests and the emails. I hope I will not offend anyone, but if I do, let me know and I will add you back as a friend.
  8.
Says she who won't load her picture! LOL

When a new person from here comes, I send links to the others from this site, so that they will know they are AZspouse. I too, am not sure of about three of the names. I got Weejun yesterday and Debs today. Who is A.B.?

I love the pictures! I've loaded mine and looked at those who have loaded theirs. I have a picture of Joan and me that I have loaded on my wall for those who want to see Joan. It was taken on the February Caregiver Cruise.

I mainly just check for new friends from here, respond to messages and wall comments and look at photos. It takes me 10 -15 minutes at most. This site - I spend about 4 hours a day here!

And don't forget - you can also see me on the home page of this website - under the "breaking news" logo about my book. It's always there next to the announcement for the daily blog. I'm wearing my glasses in the one of Mary and me, but I think it's a good picture of both of us. Took the glasses off for the website picture.

You can set it so you do not receive all the emails. They will still show on your Facebook page but you will not receive all the individual emails. When I would send someone an email to add me as a friend I always sent a message as to who I was. That helps.

I have no intention of joing FB. I am in some other groups for my hobbies of sewing and machine embroidery. Between them and this site I have more than enough to read. In fact there are times (most times) I have so much to read I don't get any sewing or machine embroidery done! Some times I think I should wean myself off this computer.

Well, I took the plunge a couple of days ago and signed on to Facebook, acquired a handful of Spouse friends, and just got done posting twenty or so photos to be viewed by friends only -- carefully writing captions for each one that now don't seem to show up. Not really too sure what I'm doing yet, and I can see how it would consume far too much time if you tried to respond to everything they throw at you -- but I HAVE enjoyed at looking photos that some of my friends have posted.

phranque, that beautiful doll in the blue/green turtleneck is my DW, Frances. The other doll in the hat in my profile photo is my second best sweetheart, who loves Frances as much as I do, and helps keep me sane by having lunch or dinner with me about once a week. I've requested that you be a friend so you can see more photos of the family, and maybe I can see more of yours?

    chris r, I'll invite you.

I took yesterday offf - I'll explain why, nothing serious, so didn't see this until now.

When you decide to send someone a hug or a bunny or whatever - the site asks you if you want to send them to all your friends. Quite possibly you'd be doing us a favor if you didn't say yes. But otoh, if you just ignore a flower thrown at you or whatever, it just goes into a little msg up in the right corner where you can ignore it.

The most important thing is to pay attention to the privacy settings in the upper right next to your name. Set them so only friends can see info on you. (I wrote about this above, I'm pretty sure)

Would love to see your pics but can't handle FB right now and am just going to give myself permission not to. I'm still just getting past not being able to get out of bed, still not up to date with e-mails and snail mails from friends, and trying like heck to keep myself posting on this site. So I'll just pat mself on the back for getting this far so far. But no social networking for me YET. Enough poor poor pitiful me - my e-mail is in my profile if anybody gets a hankerin' to send their pics my way I'd love to see what y'all look like.

Lori, there's only one year age difference between the two -- 83 and 82 -- just goes to show what playing with hair color can do! No, actually, #2 sweethjeart was just born with good skin and never played golf or gardened much to burn up her skin like my DW loved doing.

Love bluegrass! We have a fun local group here Mountain Sprout. I believe they bill themselves as "pornobilly" - we just saunter down the street and can hear music at the New Delhi Cafe, Pied Piper, or the Basin Springs Park stage. COME ON DOWN!

I finally set up a facebook page, and I managed to get a picture (not a good one) on it. I need to experiment with pictures. I have one question right now and probably many more to come. Is there a way to change my name on the page? I want to put in my maiden name so people from high school and college will recognize it. Anyone know?
