Nothing much going on today. I went to Curves yesterday for the first time. Today I have muscles aching where I didn't know I had muscles :-) Curves has a free week so I'll go back tomorrow and my daughter Cathie will go with me Friday.
I really would like to get back into the arthritis water aerobics class Claude and I took several years ago. It was geared to people with arthritis and other back problems. The results were the same but Sam taught the class geared to those of us with back problems. Unfortunately, I'd have to buy a new bathing suit. Do tent and awning stores sell bathing suits???
I'm so happy most of us are having uneventful days, mostly cheerful and bright! Divvi, I'm SO glad the birds made it. In my life I have rescued and raised a crow and a robin (and sorta rescued a Mynah bird whose main achievement was that he went BING.. just like an elevator sound). I wouldn't want to try a tiny bird like a wren!!
I usually don't get on the web-sit until Eve. when DH. is asleep...went on to-day , its 2;00 here in Jax.Fl...this is a great idea Divvi, somethng different to talk about: we are starting to feel the heat, may get some rain tomorrow..the lawn is beginning to look good. We even picked the last two peaches, that were just about ripe..the others got picked much to early by DH..Yesterday I manaaged to take DH for a much needed haircut, Vicki: I will say an extra prayer for you, think positive cs: good luck with your business
Divvi, I just want to add my thanks for you starting this thread. I have probably posted more here than on any of the other threads because I don't have the problems many of you have. My DH can still function very well and can do things for himself. Except for short term memory he is "normal" for which I am grateful. In fact I think he is doing better than when he was first Dx'd and than at the end of last year and the begining of this year. Anyway I just wanted to thank you.
my thanks to all who liked the ideas and are keeping it running! everyday will be a new day and full of eventful things or nothing:) happening in our rather shallow lives. hah. its a breath of fresh air away from some of the things that drag us down. it could help those who follow to find their way ond days /dates if the first who posts in the morning could put the DAY/DATE -ie.. Wed, june 3 or such. that way everyone will know where we are! i know all my days seem to run into one another.! me too, reading just anything other than AD is a good start to the mornings! good job to everyone! divvi jean=your welcome!! and glad you found your nitch to want to post here more! i am so glad you got your money and orig deed back! good work.
This morning I called the groomer to make an appt for Shasta, our lab/retriever mix. They said to bring her right in so my morning was taken up with her and local shopping. She hates going to the groomer, but she smells SO much nicer now, which is important, as she often jumps on the bed at night and sleeps between us. Even though she weighs over 60 lbs and is a much bigger dog than I wanted she is one of the better things in our life. I got her at the animal shelter about 2 years ago to be Clyde's dog, but she is definitely my dog. Her big brown eyes captured my heart the minute I saw her. It is nice here inEastern WA today. Not as hot but very pleasant. I love sitting on the deck swing, listening to the birds and smelling the lilacs. Looks like I need to go refill the bird feeders. They go through it really fast!
Am I the first one up this morning???? Gorgeous day! Already 70 degrees. Taking care of my little Diego, my almost 6 (wow) yr old grandson. Today is Respite day and Mom and I always go to lunch on Wednesdays. (We steal from the grocery budget, lol) Today we are going to a place that makes great salads and has a deck overlooking Norway Lake. We will have wine and relax. DH is slowly recovering from his oral surgery! So for a moment all is well. I'll sign off before something changes, :o) Love you all, Susan
No, you are not the first one up this morning, I've been in the office for about an hour this morning. I'm enjoying my first cup of Earl Grey Tea. It's another beautiful day here in North Georgia, the high should be in the upper 80's, with some clouds coming later today. Tomorrow, rain is forecast, maybe as much as an inch.
I have no meetings today, so I will catch up on paperwork. I don't have any special plans for the evening, I'll probably end up doing the laundry, I need to take the clean laundry to my DW at the NF tomorrow and visit with her tomorrow night.
Wed June 3:) mornin to you! we had electrical storms last nite that kept me and my chihuahua up all nite. flashing and booming. he is mortified of storms and goes into panic mode. i have to hold him or put him under the cover. haha. today everything is wet and green looking and mother nature certainly used the rain overnite. my hibiscus already have dozens of new blooms curled waiting to explode. checked balcony, no snake, life is good! :) coffee is brewing as i type! divvi
Goodmorning, I checked in at 6.00am but didn't post. I went back to the hospital for my blood test and this time I didn't have a cup of coffee but you can bet I am having one now.
Starling the butterfly worked like a charm, I can't believe the size of the bruise, maybe 1/4 of an inch. I keep checking to see if it's getting any bigger because that's what used to happen and the bruise would cover the whole inside of my elbow. I will be getting a bone density test July 30 but that is a piece of cake.
Jimmy, you have mentioned Earl Grey tea a couple of times. I am an ex Brit and I can't stand it. lol. I like Lipton tea.
Good morning from northwest TN. It's 73 degrees already, going to be another hot day, third one in a row. My husband is still sleeping so I have some time to myself to look at the message boards. Have a great day everyone!
Just got back from my aerobics class. Tomorrow I leave for Ohio. Today I have to do laundry, get my plants watered and hope the live until I get home. Haven't even thought about packing yet. My critters sense something is up-see suitcase. With TSA I'm packing cosmetics in my check through so I don't have to worry about sizes of liquids. Now I expect everyone to be good until I get back.
when the cats away the mice will play! :) have a great time! divvi ps no matter where i traveled skiing or cruising i'd open my suitcase and my dog would have placed his IAMS bones on top of the clothing. he was packing his stuff..awww. would make me smile very time! now he puts them in every shoe in the house! divvi
June 3 Today I get my manicure/pedicure and brows done. This is my big splurge on me. When I read the posts, it sounds a little like Mr. Rogers "It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood" and the phrase "accentuate the positive". I know for myself that my day is always better when it starts out positive. Going to take Dad for chemo later and hopefully have time to visit dh. Enjoy the day everyone!!!
Jimmy, I don't like Gin and Tonic either! Sometimes I wonder if I really was English, I do not like Iced Tea. I tell my friends they wouldn't be drinking cold tea if the hadn't have thrown it in the Harbor. I like Hot tea and coffee, ice water and Bacardi and Coke with lots of ice. Once in awhile I will drink a coke without the rum...not that I drink a lot of rum and cokes. We have a drink once a week, I have my R and C and DH has beer.
Happy Weds, hump day for the worker bees. Still cloudy with the biggest dumper of a rain last night. I think we have enough moisture for a few days, time for some sunshine. I put my foot down yesterday and insisted on going to a movie. Haven't been to a movie in over a year. The movie, Up, was very cute and a good story. DH slept through most of it and I ate most of the popcorn. Someone mentioned that good books were coming out, I think it was Starling. Would anyone like to start a discussion or list of good books to read, not about Alzheimers? I wish I could join a book club here but so far no respite care and DH would not be good at a book club discussion. I just finished reading The Shack and now on The God Of Animals.
June 3 Good morning, had to do some household chores before posting, sun is shining and 50 degrees woo heat wave lol. cut my grass yesterday going to weed flowers today, do some banking later today and have 8 year old granddaughter sleep over tonight should be fun watch a kid movie with her and popcorn. o and have to go around the corner to daughters house so Arizona can see the new puppies
Another nice day in prospect here on the Florida east coast, where ocean breezes usually keep us a few degrees cooler than inland -- maybe a high around 86 degrees forecast for today, with possible late afternoon thundershowers as the east and west coast seabreezes collide over the mainland and push the warm moist air upward. Dr. Gray has reduced his estimate of the number of hurricanes this year by one, which is always good news.
I was up early -- 7:00 a.m. -- to take the garbage and recycleables down to the street, and there were nice smells where I had mowed over pine needles a couple of days ago. Everything is greening up nicely after last week's rain, and the place looks great!
Susan, if you're on Norway Lake, you're in prime gemstone hunting country, aren't you? Maybe StuntGirl and I will visit you on one of our rockhounding expeditions after we've "done the West". One of our earliest gemstone hunting trips, probably about 40 years ago, was to Mt. Mica and Mt. Apatite, near Paris and Mechanic Falls. Didn't find much, but I recall the deer flies were fierce!
Good morning, all! My normal routine of getting up (5:45 a.m.), showering, getting my husband dressed and settled in his recliner with a cup of coffee, taking the dogs outside, getting the paper and reading it while listening to the TV on the local morning show went without a hitch for a change! AND, most importantly, three days without having to clean up during the night!!! I'm a happy camper!
Jean and Jimmy, I love green tea (hot) in the afternoon. It soothes me. Otherwise, being a good Southerner, I love my Lipton iced tea!
I'm now at work and checking Joan's place to see if anything happened to anyone overnight, and to say good morning to my family here! I took pictures last night of my grandson when he got home from his first day of college! I remembered that I always took pictures of our children on their first day of school, and thought that I would do the same for my grandson! Grandson number one chose not to go to college. (This is grandson number 2.)
Mary, Do you put sugar in your green tea? I use sugar and milk in hot tea and sugar and Coffee Mate in coffee. I think I could drink the green tea without milk but I think I would have to put sugar in it. It's strange because I don't eat a lot of cookies, pies and cake. I only like cake without frosting....go figure!
Jean, the butterfly is what they use on babies, but it works like a charm on hard sticks. Just asking for it also gives the tech a head's up that they need to be sure that they have a good vein before they start. But I've seen the butterfly work after they stuck me in situations where a normal needle would not have worked.
This morning I wrote myself a note to call my daughter. I have phone phobia, and I've decided I need to make sure that I call her at least once a week. Then if she also calls me I get to talk to her more than once a week and that is a very good thing. I think both of us have used the phone for work so much that neither of us remembers to pick it up for fun. I'm fine once I'm actually on the phone, but just remembering to make the call takes "work".
We have been having late afternoon storms and overnight rain. We've been lucky here because the really bad storms have been hitting south of Philadelphia and they have been missing us, but we have gotten the overnight rain. It is cloudy today, but dry enough that I let my husband go and take his walk.
Jean, I do use sugar in my green tea - nothing else. When I go to Chinese restaurants, I get their hot green tea, and don't use sugar in it! Go figure!
I woke up at 6, but stayed laying down til 7 because of the wonderful cool breeze coming through the window just a few feet from me. We never got as hot as predicted yesterday, but anything out of the 50's or 60's is warm to us. Got to the mid 70's, but thought we would reach a humid 83. Oddly our highs hit around 6pm or later. My house is tri-level and faces west so the sun really heats up the house late in the day. It is rare times I can leave windows open at night for fresh air and cooling off the house. We have air conditioning (heat/cool pump), but I'm doing all I can to avoid having the pump going on and off all day and night. Didn't have to worry about that ($$$$$$) before, but trying to be careful with utilities now that I'm widowed and not yet working. I am keeping curtains closed where the sun shines through, etc. I hate curtains. Always wanted my windows uncovered for the view. I put them up just before DH died because I was trying to help decrease his sundowning episodes. Anyway, I don't have neighbors right on top of us that could see in our windows from their houses, and my driveway is gravel. I, or my dog can hear anyone coming down our road so I never was "off guard" when people approached our house. We are about 200 feet off the city road. We overlook the Columbia river, and the banks of Oregon (I'm on the WA side), and I still love the view.
My coffee pot is set the night before, so when I get to the kitchen in the morning it is waiting for me. Love my morning coffee.
I purchased 12 shrubs about a month ago and until yesterday had only planted one. With the heat, and still in their plastic pots they started looking real bad. I got four more planted later las evening, and it is my mission to get more planted today. These are going on grassy, weedy, rocky steep banks, so getting the spot prepared for each shrub is not easy work.
A good morning to all. It's just afternoon and already the groceries are shopped, the Pantry visited, and most all is put away. Daughter picked up stuff for doing the yard--brush killer, some seeds, etc. And is now working on it. Can't claim I did it all, but I am the overseer. <lol> Lots to do.
Good morning to everyone. Today DH and I will be re-arranging the living room, tomorrow we will be getting two new chairs and the delivery men will take the 2 recliners out of here. DH is getting a new recliner I am getting a non reclining chair. Recliners and I don't get along very well. The minute I get in it I start yawning, especially if I put it in the reclining position. Maybe this will give me some ambition to do some other things. I HOPE. I hope you all have a great day.
Good Morning! Today is my very first "me" day. My stepson is paying for an extra day at the Day Care so I can have a day all for myself. Going to work three days a week isn't really free time, is it? I didn't make any plans for today. Right now I'm just enjoying being home without anyone "shadowing" me.
Good Morning Everyone! I'm sitting here enjoying my first cup of tea. It promises to be a light day at work today. Jean, I can't see anything wrong with recliners, I get some of my best sleep while watching TV with the recliner in reclining position. I plan to visit DW at the NF after work.
We were talking about Earl Grey Tea yesterday, I am trying some Twining's this morning it has a somewhat lighter flavor than the Bigelow tea I usually have. Different brands of Earl Grey seem to have different flavors.
A week from this Friday I'm going to a black tie Ceildh, I'll let Jean21 explain that one to you. I'm trying to maintain an active social life. They are usually a pretty active event, we will be having Haggis for dinner.
It is a threatening to rain all day Thursday. My husband just took off on a long walk and I can only hope it doesn't rain while he is gone. But frankly this might be his only chance to walk today or tomorrow. It looks like it is drying out there, but it could start again.
I've chosen to think of his walks as "respite time" at least some of the time. Sometimes I'll run out while he is gone and do an errand or two. Sometimes I just sit at my computer and type away.
I've recognized that I haven't done any scrapbooking for the last few weeks, and took a deep sigh. I used to be a constant needleworker, and then a constant scrapbooker. I've always needed some kind of artistic outlet. The needlework has actually become boring. I still love to see books on the subject and own a better collection than any library I've ever seen, but I don't really want to DO it anymore. And it looks like scrapbooking is going to go the same way, although when I do remind myself to open up Photoshop, I still enjoy the process. Not quite sure what is going on there.
jimmy, be sure to have all your emergency contact information, Medic Alert bracelets, etc. easily accessible if you're going to actually eat haggis ! ! ! Hope you have plenty of sick leave. LOL
We Scots have cast iron stomachs, they are toughened up by drinking "wee drams" of single malt scotch whiskey neat.
Actually haggis is pretty good, there are many different receipes, the ones used here in the US are different from those used in Scotland, the USDA will not allow the original ingredients to be used in the US.
Jimmy, you can have my portion of the haggis!!! It is not my favorite food! We had some on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh a couple of years ago. I had to try it. Like Mikey, I tried it! But I didn't like it! <grin> It is an acquired taste!
We loved the Scottish Tattoo in August that year. Magnificent! Our favorite event on the whole tour was seeing the Tattoo. (For anyone reading here who doesn't know - at Edinburgh Castle for three weeks in August, bands and groups come together from all over the world, including Russian dancers, Tahitian dancers, marching bands from European countries, Canada and the U.S., and each unit performs individually - and the Scottish bagpipes are glorious there! Better than anywhere else. And it ends with a single bagpipe player on the top of the castle wall playing with all bands and groups back on the field together. Fabulous!
It rained again yesterday and it was raining on the way to work this morning. I know that when August comes, I'll beg for rain, but right now, I would love some beautiful skies!
Starling, I used to make our scrapbooks after each trip, and I finished the Caregiver Cruise scrapbook (I really enjoy it - my best one yet) but I've taken pictures since then, and had some from Thanksgiving and Christmas but haven't put them in a book as yet. It is as if the days are shorter. I can't get as much done in a day as I used to!
june 4--------- good morning, sun is shinning and going to be in the 70`s today, daughter and I are headed out to do a few things, need to go to the SS Office, then off to see dh`s new bed and feed him lunch, not much else happening in this small town, we go into town next to ours about a ten min. ride to do our business, our little comunity has one store, one gas station and one restruant, see not much happening.we live in the town of Dollar Bay and we shop in Houghton. off i go daughter is here.
Happy Thursday all. It is still cool and threatening to rain a bit. Yesterday I found some little flowers by the side of the road and stopped to pick some to press. The whole roots came up with them and I thought to plant them at home. They smelled delicious. I don't know what kind they are but they are small and light purple fading to white and smell almost like honeysuckle. I had to put them in water so I could go by and smell them once in a while. A field near our post office has bloomed with some purple wild flowers, dandelions and something else white. It is fantastic color. Today I think I will go back with my camera and see if I can capture anything close to how cool it looks. No other plans, just get through the day as smoothly as possible.
Good morning all from western NY--looks like it will be a nice day today--sunny, upper 60s. This is my day off from work so I will be home with my DH--we will probably run some errands and maybe get mulch for the garden. Later this afternoon our son and granddaughter will visit--that always makes George happy. I'm trying to figure a way to convince George to go to an adult daycare program, for at least 2 days/week while I am at work. I know it would be good for him in keeping his mind and body active--but at his age (60), and the way he views this illness that "is not that bad" --I know he will resist the idea. Someone on this site saod she was able to convince her husband to go to daycare by telling him that he would be going as a volunteer--of course she had to notify the director of the daycare of this premise so the staff would go along with the plan. I like this idea, but not sure if it will work with him, but I plan to try. Any other ideas anyone has would be appreciated! Thanks
June 4 Wow!! My first "free" day in like FOREVER!!! Of course, there is never a free day. Always something need doing but I get to choose where and when!! Glorious.
Tonight I'm going to a seminar called "Save money by matching services to your parents specific needs. I hope it gives me up to date info about entitlement programs and other services. I have been dealing with Medicaid applications since Jan. The case worker I have probably was hired the minute before our application was received and she has misinformed me twice on some very important matters. I now just deal with her supervisor. He's been great.
Looks like another rainy day but to me, freedom means SUNSHINE!!!! Enjoy your day everyone.
Hi, all--It is 7:00 PST in the great northwest--It's going to be 88+ again today. Yesterday my poor cat kept tryingto find someplace cool to lay down. I put up a fan and after hehad checked that out, he laid down right in front of it and let the air blow on him.
I've been up for a couple of hours. Put on a load of clothes, watered my hanging pots, set up the hose on the front yard to water for 2 hours, peeled some peaches, wrote a letter and here I am. Don't I sound ambitions. I hate people like me. ha ha
It's suppose to cool down a bit tonight--maybe thunder showers. It hasn't rained in a couple of weeks and out here, that's a drought. Isn't that ridiculous? I now in the midwest you go for a 2-3 months without rain.
Helloooo all you great people in AD land!! :) made french toast and sausages for breakfast and drizzled carmel sauce over it for DH-he scraped the plate! added some bananas with drizzled coco oil:) gobbled them too. life is good when plates are cleaned,.. repair guy is on the way. the atrium bedroom shade is not moving and the sun is baking thru the skylite-makes for the a/c to run overtime. my day out is friday. and i aim for biglots:) for cleaning supplies and then to the mall to browse-i am working on getting into mindset to start diet again. it cant continue like i am going..:( sunny and blue today -flowers call for water. seeya! divvi
Good morning to all. Read a great article in AARP Bulletin today about how good coffee is for you - while I was drinking my coffee this morning!
My phlebitis in my ankle is better this morning. Swelling gone down some and doesn't hurt as much.
I had two huge pots of wildflowers on our back porch and DH told me this morning the pots look shabby! I didn't replay, but he said he was going to paint them. They are plastic, so it's okay. This will keep him busy for much of the day and I'll have some free time! Gotta love'em. Have a great day to all.
Good morning! Yesterday was my "day out". I went to the retirement luncheon for my friend of some 25 years. Had a great time. Not too many people still working in the office that I know. (I've been gone almost 10 years so many retirements between then and now.) Many of the retirees came for the luncheon so did get to see many of my old friends. Kind of like old-home week. I liked going as a retiree much better than I liked going as an employee. :-) The retirees have a monthly get-together that I can now join since I have respite care. I am looking forward to that as one of my days out. Life is good!! It is sunny and bright here. Looks to be a very nice day...not as hot as it has been, but still a great day to be outside. The hummingbirds and gold finches are all swooping around.
It is nearly noon here in SC and I think I have lost my mind. Not only did we get the chairs and love seat vacuumed and moved but I polished the end tables, coffee table and the wall unit after I had DH take everything off the shelves. Polished the tea trolley and washed the Chinese tea set and all my glass clowns. Now my back is killing me!!!!
I don't think it is the CoQ10 because I had only taken 2 (Tuesday and Wednesday) so I don't think they would work that fast. Maybe I just needed to get moving instead of thinking about what I need to do.
jean i do the same thing. one day i will chose to do everything while i am on a roll, THEN pay the price the next day. usually on a heating pad at nite. lower back just doesnt tolerate much. i am not the type to do little bursts at a time. once the motion is set its all or nothing. ha. i know what you mean. at least its done now for a while!and i got RED BULL at my grandaughters insistance says give you a burst of energy. havent had it yet!divvi
Phewww! Yesterday got to 91. Thunder and lightening missed us, but tonight looks like more of a hit. 85F predicted today. Some of my plants that were still in pots did get planted. 6 more pots to go. Neighbors who had called from Utah last week are home now. They had asked me to run over and water some of their plants after they heard we had such long time with heat, and without rain. Yes, more than 5 or 6 days without rain is uncharacteristic in WA. We also rarely have warm weather more than a couple days without a break. Anyway, they called to thank me and when we got to talking plants they said "Don't buy more plants. We have so much easy growing low maintenance plants to give you." Wow! I feel blessed. I have so much bank area that needs something besides weeds and grass, but I can't afford a landscape company/hired help. Nor can I afford to buy alot of plants.
I'm getting a little done at a time on the property. Won't get all the bank done this year, but every little bit helps. It'll get there someday. Have at least a half acre of steep bank to cover, and an acre and a half slope to mow around here. I have to do some driving into town til just past noon today, and can't work in the muggy heat anyway........so this evening I'll get back out to do some planting. Have windows open right now to cool off the house since it is stll in the 60s outside. Don't want that air conditioner going all day. Man, that gets expensive.
Gonna get my big dog walked and fed before going into town. Hope everyone has a great day.
