I think it may be a nice idea to have a morning checkin place where we can have our coffee/tea etc and update the group with any interesting news? we can just keep running the posts til too many and then start a new one. its a fun way to hear generic news from everyone and lighten the burden of AD we carry around with us.
i'll give it a start!
Todays Sunday, May 31st!! wow, where did spring go? and now summer is here. we are stil in drought mode and hoping for late spring showers to get us thru the long hot summer ahead here in central tx. yesterday i battled a 3ft snake! on my kitchen balcony. he was after the squirrel eating a peice of bread i thru him. i adore animals of all sorts and today feeling quite guilty for attacking the snake with a hoe. but for some reason now everything we do is about safety and self preservation, huh??? sound familiair? haha. it slithered away and i still am afraid to open the glass door on the area -plus i have to do a cleanup now under the balcony on monday with my lawn guy just to be sure=-i do have a wooded small forest right outside my door so these things can be expected but none the less quite unnerving. hope everyone has a good day and enjoys their morning start! whats your plan for the day/week? and let us share time away from the caring for a bit each day? anyone who up early can start another days posts right here after todays. once it catches on its a nice way to start the day! divvi
Great idea Divvi. This is where I start my day anyway. Fresh coffee and the message board. Not much new here. I put two fliers out in the public yesterday trying to get some housecleaning jobs. The mortgage gets tougher to make every month. Wish me luck. I named my little business PRISTINE. cs
I agree this is a nice idea. Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day here in Maryland--we're going out for a long walk later. We've had so much rain, some of my impatiens look like they are rotting! I hope it stops soon. I'm going to try to replace them with ornamental sweet potato vine--haven't ever grown it, but I love the chartreuse color, and it's pretty when it spills down the side of the containers. We do so much running around during the week, I always look forward to staying home on Sundays.
Good morning, ladies. Nice idea, divvi - an e-kaffeeklatch of sorts. Tell more about your snake. Was he perhaps a black racer or a garter snake? They're harmless. Around here I have to keep a sharp eye out for rattlesnakes, cottonmouths and copperheads when out walking dogs or working in the woods. Fortunately, they usually hear us before we see them, and they quickly slither off.
cs, I love your choice of names for your business. Good luck.
I was thinking a trip to a garden store to get some colorful annuals for the front porch would be a project for today.
Good Morning! We're ready to leave for worship when I finish here. Looks like a lovely day in the country neighborhood. Birds are singing; flowers blooming; weeds growing. I've read a chapter of John Grisham's The Associate this a.m. Wish I could have a cleaning lady; I'd have you over. We could even drink a glass of iced tea w/mint when you took a 15' break.
Good morning from Wyoming! Looks like we might have a little rain today and it's quite cool out. That's really good grass growing weather for us and everything is so green now it almost hurts your eyes when the sun shines. I think today would be a good day to go for a drive and look at people's yards, get some ideas for landscaping, perhaps get DH a milkshake to drink while I drive. I got a new Mac laptop and have been watching movies and surfing the internet in bed, how cool is that? Now I can be on the computer and he doesn't have to be all agitated because I'm tucked away in the computer room. I watched the last Jay Leno episode in the morning without any commercials on the hulu. This is a real bright spot in my existence to have this toy. Hope you all find something to laugh about or enjoy today.
jules, congrats on the new Mac laptop. Sounds like it solves a problem for you and will be a great thing to have. Here's a site for you to check out if you like funny animal pictures:
after much debate with my son the hunter:) we have yet to actually decide what kind of snake this was. 3ft or so. clay colored brown with blackish blotches, triangle head, (i know, pit viper type? ugh!) and it was stocky and rather slow moving. it did strike rather slow for a snake. son thought it could be pregnant (hes ob/gyn ALWAYS thinking babies!HAHA!)? and either a rat snake of sorts since it came from under rafters on balcony and had to climb or worse it could be a sub type copperhead.- but unlikely due to climbing- but has the coloring. its a wild guess as i didnt get that close and too scared to remembr-we're stumped, and i dont care, i dont like it either way! and my two chihuahuas, i would be very concerned for them - sigh!
i agree, flower planting is a good choice to pass the day! my hibiscus are blooming out the wazoo! dozens of yellows, reds, peach, pinks on all the bushes around my pool. just lovely! hand size blooms. i am using miracle grow sporadically. i am not a green thumber for sure..:) divvi
Another sunny day in Florida. After a long drought we finally had some rain. My marigold seeds are sprouting. I am getting in panic mode about my upcoming trip to Ohio to see family. Worry about husband, animals etc. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth the effort. Divvi-great idea to meet with each other over coffee.
Good start on the day for us down here in Florida -- clear weather with not much chance of the afternoon thunderstorms that have broken our drought and brought 7 1/2 inches of rain in the past week. Grass is finally growing like gangbusters and lots of fire ants have come to the surface and built mounds, so I spent a couple of hours yesterday poisoning them -- had to switch to a different fire ant bait, as the Amdro we've always used is evidently attractive to dogs, and we wouldn't wish to lose out newly adopted Doberman (she may be pregnant!) to ant poison. I took advantage of a calm morning to get up at daylight and burn a huge pile of palm fronds that have been accumulating for months and waiting for our drought (and fire danger) to end, and my plans are to go out and mow most of the lawn starting in a few minutes -- usually a six hour job. I was just full of energy this morning -- instead of the usual dry cereal, I fixed bacon and eggs and toast for Frances, who hasn't had much appetite lately -- but she gobbled THAT down with no problem. My barber came down yesterday and gave both of us haircuts, so we're set for about a month. Took my special lady friend out to dinner Friday night, and afterwards to a coffee house for iced coffee dessert and some live folk/bluegrass music performed by the family of a gal who used to come to out gourdoatch meetings. School ended on Friday, and we'll babysit our 17 year old great niece for a couple of nights next week while the rest of her family make a trip up to NC to visit their Mom/Grandmom -- she's starting a summer job (interning 40 hours a week for a local electronic company, so she couldn't make the trip.) I guess that's most of the news from Grant -- a busier week than usual.
Sun is shining and a beautiful day in Kentucky. We had our normal coffee in bed early this a.m., then dressed and met a group of friends for breakfast at Bob Evans. DH is in good form so far today! Think we'll go out later and get the car washed, vacuumn outdoor carpet on the back porch and maybe grill out this evening. Anything to keep me from worrying about the next two days: Mammo tomorrow - GYN found a lump last week. Had chest x-ray at checkup with my GP a week or so ago, and x-ray revealed "something" on my lung. So have to have a CTscan Tuesday. Haven't told DH yet. At least I can drive after both tests!
Great day finally in Connecticut. Last week it was so dreary with all the rain that this is a welcome start. I haven't even had my coffee yet. You can tell my priorities!!! Anyway, my sister usually stays over on Sat night after we visit with Dad on Sat and play some pinochile. Anyone else play? We learned when we were 8 or 9 years old and now Dad is 83 and still going strong with playing. Today, I am going to relax a little. Sister wants to do a little shopping so we will go for a while. I'm trying to get a landscape plan together but haven't had the time to even focus on it. I have no green thumb and I am looking for magazines and houses that I love. I just love that wild flower look but I may be too fussy to have it all the time. I generally like order. Will see dh later. Hope everyone else is having a sunny day.
Oh Vicki, So sorry. I read this discussion, went to another discussion and when I came back, did not read anything new. Waiting is forever but it sounds like you believe in preventative medicine. It's always good to check things out routinely. I'm praying you will have good news. At least you will be busy today- that'll make the time go by!! {{{{{{HUG}}}}
And good morning to all! Since its nearly June and an annual funrun (?) is scheduled for later this month, I decided it was about time to start 'training'. Walked 3 miles in 54 min.which is not too bad for the first effort of the YEAR! arghhh.. Along the way though, I saw the little bluebird fledglings with their parent and that was neat. Also a few rabbits who thought they were hidden but weren't. Snakes..oh nooooo.. no way, no kind. Yikess ..gettem outta thereee. Pristine is a wonderful name for that little business and I'd sure give you a call too. It just sounds nice and crisply cleannnn.. Vickie, just don't think about it till you have to.. Like Scarlet. We'll be hoping everything works out just fine. A good day for all we hope!!!
good morning everyone it`s sunny here in Upper Michigan, no plans as of yet for the day, went to a graduation party for a great nephew and saw alot of relatives yesterday, was nice, went with my sister. The grass needs cutting and the weeds need to be taken care of but I am going to sit and have a soda, hate coffee, I love my pepsi and coke. I love this idea we get to know a little about each other , It is still cool here only in the 40`s in the morning and I like it hot,so this afternoon I will take my dog for a walk, probley go around the corner to my daughters house to see the 2 week old puppies, i love animals except snakes , I have encountered to many of them when I lived in Az. but I never had to kill one, we had rattlers yuckkkkkk. I am sitting here , my computer is in a big window, watching children play what fun they are having, o to be young again lol.
We are having the second really beautiful late Spring day in a row, with at least one more to come here in Central-Eastern Pennsylvania. It was raining badly to the South of us in Delaware this morning, and there were showers North of us in the Southern Tier of New York State, but it is just beautiful here.
We did have a rain deficit this year, although I think it is now over. But we are on water rationing anyway. They let too many new houses be built too fast and the water company can't keep up. For some reason there is no such thing as an Eastern PA Water Group. It shocks me because in California that kind of thing has been in place for a very long time. And we have plenty of rain around here, but this water company doesn't get any of its water from reservoirs. Having come from a place that was working on catching as much of the rain water as possible for the dry part of the year, having all that rain go to waste just blows my mind.
I tend to spend my early morning on the computer with my last cup of coffee. I journal, check on the two forums I'm visiting these days, do email, and just get myself together. I love the idea of a check in with non-dementia stuff.
Good Sunday morning from Oregon, great idea, Divvi. Our weather is gorgeous, but a touch too warm for me... another 87 degree day today. Not our norm for this time of year, by any means. So far today is better than yesterday when we started with a sewer back up all over the lower patio..YUK! Haven't had that for a long time..no real reason just clogged. G not much help in that department any longer.
The Portland Rose Festival was kicked off last night, and for a change the weather appears to be cooperating....lots of action, but we'll watch it on TV rather than join the throngs.
Good morning from Chicago. Our weather today is going to be cool again. It should be in the 70's but we'll be lucky if it hits the mid 60's today. At least the sun is out :)
We'll be going for a walk later--short one as I still get a little tired--and that will make my husband happy.
Good morning everybody. It's a warm but sunny morning here in Florida. First day back from our cruise so I'm doing a lot of laundry. I always hated snakes until I found out that they eat rats. We live near on a river and near an orange grove (hence the occasional rat) I'd much rather have a snake than a rat. I've also been busy reading all the posts I missed while we were away.
Carolyn, welcome back! Where did you go on your cruise?
Vickie, don't worry! We have enough on our plates...be an optimist! (But let us know how things turn out!)
Divvi, what a wonderful idea! After reading my e-mail and checking in here, I'll plant a plat of caladiums around my magnolia tree, spread some mulch, take a bath and take my husband to see "Up." He loves cartoon movies and I enjoy them as well. Today is the second beautiful day in a row after three weeks of rain! My flowers on the patio are gorgeous!
Sorry,Can take credit only when due:) on another website some time ago we started out the day with a personal input blog-but our own Imohr here, started a few direct emails for fun and i thought since they were so enjoyable, we should do it here at joans so all who like the idea can participate. so the real idea came from Imohr- she gets the first credit, i just followed thru.:) divvi
Great idea Divvi. Love hearing non-AD news for a change. I think we all need a place to talk another subject. We had 1.1" of rain last night here in western WV and on top of already water soaked ground. I had hoped to set out some plants this evening but too wet.
Everything is growing great in our garden including the weeds. Not seen many bugs yet - maybe they are waiting for the "fruit".
I think bringing the idea here is FABULOUSO!!! So take the credit, divvi. Today in the Pac. NW it is beautiful, as Kathi says. I'm in SW Washington where it is sunny in the a.m. And true, very unusual for us at this time of year. I LOVE IT!
So strange to say like this, but God planned for DH to pass on, and I'm thankful that it was Spring time going into summer. The sun, and getting outdoors gives me a lift in so many ways, and had this happened to me when the Autumn and/or Winter was coming I KNOW that I'd be finding it that much harder to ward off depression.
Our big overweight dog (whom I mentioned a year or so ago that I hoped to find a new home for) is finally getting out. We live semi=rural, but still not allowed to let dogs roam free if they will go onto others properties. DH constantly overfed the dog, all kinds of people food in addition to Milk Bones and dog food. Poor dog was so fat. DH couldn't manage him, and his knees were so bad he couldn't get ou with me to walk him. Nor could I leave DH home to get the dog out myself. Now I have made it my mission to get him out in the a.m. and the p.m. every day before his meals. He can run and jump like he hasn't in a long, long time. Problem though, my kids heard somethng last night. Son went out to check and the dog has gotten into so much better shape that he somehow got over his kennel fence *(probably after a cat, coyote, racoon, deer?). Hmmm! I call it a "A Good Job Backfire." LOL
sunny day here in lower Mich cool an breezy, first rose opened today, clematis are all in bloom, raspberries have blossums, everything outside looks fine, male cardinal still pounding on all the windows, you would think his lips would be sore by now, finches busy at the feeders,a great day to be alive
Good morning from Washington State. Like New Realm mentioned, it is absolutely beautiful here! The week has been sunny and in the 70's and 80's which is very unusual for us this time of year.
Not much planned here for today. We have had breakfast and read the paper. I need to head to the pharmacy and get some medications refilled. I also have to give my pupsters their weekly baths. My daughter and the grand kids should be here by noon or so. It will be fun to play with them but DH will need to wind down later tonight.
It is hot and a bit humid in SC and I don't have any flowers growing. It's kind of hard when you live in a condo on the third floor......not to mention the fact that any thumb I have is definitely black as past efforts will attest. We went to church this morning and then for breakfast. Right now DH is taking a nap (1.17pm). I am hoping to get some energy this week to get some things accomplished at home. It seems like I just keep putting things off and get nowhere. Anyone out there good at giving pep talks? Feel free to jump in. I hope everyone has a nice relaxing day.
P.S. I am doing a pot roast in the slow cooker so I don't heat up the kitchen. Depending on how much DH eats I may have enough for tomorrow!!!!
Good morning or I guess it's good afternoon now (12:26) from North Texas.
It's another beautiful sunny day, supposed to get up to 92° this afternoon, My kind of weather:-)
Nothing much going on today. Someone earlier mentioned weeds growing:-) They are for sure growing here and I have got to get out and weed my front bed again before they choke out the flowers. I bought a soaker hose to put in my front bed. The next day it started raining:-) I still haven't put it in.
Jean, I need some pep talks too about getting motivated. I'm leaving on my trip June 30 and have a "To Do Before I Leave" list a mile long.
It's a beautiful day here in Alabama. We have had so much rain lately that the sun is a welcome sight. I have been spending my days on the computer checking out realestate in NW Florida area. We really need to be closer to the children. Do I really need to buy a home at 81 or should I just rent? Rental property is looking better and better. It has been fun looking but can I find the energy to move one more time. I may just stay in Alabama in the small town of Foley which would be about 40 minutes from the two daughters and 20 miles to my beloved beach. I love small towns and would feel at home in Foley. We lived in Gulf Shores about 4 years and I am familiar with the area. Changes are hard but exciting at the same time. DH keeps wanting to move back to Cullman which is where we are now so I'll just tell him that's where we are going. Lord, please forgive me for the fibbing.
This is a great idea. Looks like there is good weather all over the country. Everyone, except Jules in Wyoming, mentioned sunny weather, generally warm (or too hot). Here is Maine it is sunny, temperature 70. We have had a lot of rain the past week, so everything is green.
We have a friend visiting from Rhode Island for the next week. This morning we went to church, then had brunch at our retirement home. This afternoon there is a concert on the porch. Tomorrow we plan to go to our "summer" home, probably for the rest of the week, so you may not hear much from me (no internet connection there).
Bama it is exciting planning to move and also stressful. Moving is right up there with weddings and divorces as far as stress goes. We moved when I was 69. Almost 1/2 mile away but we already lived near the kids. When I am 81 I would still want to be close the kids and to a place I would hope I could stay for the rest of my life. Right where I am now. 40 miles is still going to be a ways from your kids. Can you find a small town nearer to them?
We live in a semi rural area and when I no longer drive will have to rely on the girls to take me places. Be nice to be close to a bus like Mawzy.
Sunny and breezy here in SW Michigan. We've made our weekly jaunt to the store this am. Dh is napping and I'm here right now, but when I finish I've got to get busy. Daughter is flying in tomorrow afternoon from CA for the week. She did all our yard care until she moved to CA. She is planning to properly prune all the rose bushes, and clean and mulch/chip the flower beds so we have less weed issues to deal with. If everything works out we're putting in a Crimson King Maple as well. This last week she sent me a picture of my newest Great-Grands to be...23 fancy corn snake eggs. You see, some of us have grand children,. grand dogs or grand cats. I have Grand: 1 cat, 1 ball python, 8 Bearded Dragons, and (I think) 7 fancy corn snakes. There are also some Betta fish. <GRIN> Her hubby couldn't take off work, so he is critter sitting. She's leaving him a 10 page manual.<lol>
I prefer to stick to the furry pets, but her special ones are interesting.
A funny: I was just going through some papers and stuff for shredding and found the following document:
"Memorandum to Parents: An examination of your child, Vickie, on 10/1/1948 reveals the following conditions: No defects. Signed by County health Officer, Florida State Board of Health."
I am so happy to know for sure now that I HAVE NO DEFECTS!
Good afternoon from Vermont......It is cool and windy today. We've had mostly showers this past week, but at least it isn't snowing. Heavy frost tonight!
Marsh, I have friends in both Portland and Wayne. Are you anywhere near there?
Vickie, sending only good thoughts and prayers your way!!!!((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))) It is a beautiful day here in the northeast!!!!! I've had my 24 year old home sick with the flu since Wednesday and this is the first day he has gotten out of bed, dressed and is hanging out on the front lawn reading. I love having him home even when he's sick. Afraid cleaning the house is all I have planned for today, but, with all windows open and the weather perfect, I will even enjoy that. Great Idea Divvi, who ever thought of it, thanks.
It's a little more humid in Big D today, but still tolerable. Went to visit son & family in McKinney this morning. They have a new miniature schnauser (sp?) pup and he is the cutest, friendliest thing. No rain since a week ago, so had to water my baby trees, azaleas, and hostas yesterday. I will probably do some weeding this afternoon to avoid getting a nasty letter from the city. This is a good idea!
High noon here in Los Angeles where we have been deep in 'June gloom' weather for some time. Note to visitors--never schedule vacations to L.A. in June--this year even the end of May. Don't know where the sun goes during that time, it's usually out and about otherwise. Last night my son had a birthday bash for my French g'son who will be officially 25 tomorrow. With all the left-over young people coming back to my house, in and out at all hours, Nueve the cat got locked out sometime around 2 a.m. When I opened my bedroom shutters this morning, she was on the b-b-q table reading me the riot act thru the window. Meow, meow, meow! You locked me out all night. (Wasn't me.) When I let her in she went to all the furniture & walls, rubbing against everything, re-marking her place, rolling and pushing herself hard onto the carpet--making sure it was all hers again. She's a bit subdued and annoyed with me, but too bad, that's life--and she has lots of lives left.
This is a great idea. Thanks, Divvi. It is sunny and hot here in Eastern Washington. About 89 so far. Better than the tons of snow we had till April. I have a bird house outside the kitchen window where swallows have nested for several years. For the last two years there has been one swallow that sits in the window sill and looks into the house. He also checks out other windows and often flutters against them. I thought he wasn't coming back this year but yesterday I saw him again. It is fun to watch him each summer. My daughter named him Lookey-Lou. We also feed the birds. Have tons of humming birds and gold finches. Very relaxing to sit on the deck (in the shade) and watch them.
Sunny and warm here in the NW. I am south of New Realm and north of Kathi37. I agree though, it is a bit warm (never happy are we?). I prefer the temps around 75. The snow if melting fast from the mountains which is not good for summer water supply. Oh well.
Since there are three families living here at my sister's, I do my laundry on Sunday, so that is what I am doing. Just filled some bowls with water for the guineas and birds since it has been dry and sunny for over a week now. I hate to feed them and not give them water. Gmaewok - the birds seem to be late on their migration north this year which is probably why your swallow was a little late.
It was a lovely day today here in RI. My leg is finally maybe possibly showing a slight improvement after three synvisc shots so I was able to walk around a little. Right now, at 6 pm, it's 75, so marvelous and comfortable weather. We watched a movie this afternoon and then I left my friend sitting quietly dozing in the living room and ran off for a few groceries. Got back half an hour later to find him happily sitting at the breakfast table with a TUMBLER of sherry in front of him (not drunk) and an orange halved, not consumed. Scolded him. We had the steak I'd gone out for, and good salad and yellow rice, so all is well. The sherry was more than enough for both of us for the evening!
It's not morning here, however, it was a beautiful sunny day, temp is 77 degrees. I have been planting flowers, sprucing up the patio & watching the folks come to my neighbors "Open House" for her friend's daughter's High School Graduation. My neighbor's are a very nice couple around my age...very helpful & considerate towards my husband. She just brought us treats from the Open House. Pulled Beef sandwiches, fruit, raw vegetables, candy, cake & lots of other goodies...all fattening. lol
What a great idea, I will give it my best shot...............tomorrow. Today I spent with Jim going from Dentist, yes on a Sunday morning, (can we say $$$$, no dental insurance) to medical center to another medical center with an on call oral surgeon. Tomorrow he has surgery to remove an abcessed molar and impacted wisdom tooth. Poor guy kept forgetting to tell me that he had a tooth ache! The day started out nice, coffee, computer, paper, then whoosh off to doctorville!
I've been spending a lot of time with my puzzles today. I even bought myself a book of very easy crosswords to try and teach myself how to do those too. Although math never was my thing, I seem to like the number puzzles better than the word kind.
I did a crock pot pork roast today and it came out "too tough" according to my husband. Good thing it was a little one because I decided to just toss what was left. It would have tasted good if I'd shredded it and soaked it in Bar-b-q sauce, but I'd have liked it but he wouldn't have eaten it. Better to just let it go.
It was a wonderful day, Grandson received his confirmation today. I had my doubts about whether he'd even be Baptized when he was born, so I'm very content. Then we gave him a photo and autograph of gil Hodges that he had been admiring on the wal of DH's den. he was delighted. he even hugged us, which is a big deal for a 13 almost 14 year old boy. Usually, we can't touch him, just smile lovingly. what a wonderful day. A BBQ then at my son's home with my DD and family, my DIL's parents and some friends. weather was beautiful. thank you God.
ttt Good Morning! Gorgeous day here in the Lakes Region of Maine. Blue skies, sunshine and it would appear all is well. Although appearances can be deceiving, lol. Five minutes until I can call the Oral Surgeon then we should be off for a road trip to Auburn. I've hung out a load of laundry, got the dishwasher running, Dylan is dressed and ready for the bus, kittens and dog are fed, oh, and Jim and I are dressed, so far so good! Please keep him in you thoughts as he gets his molar and wisdom tooth yanked, yikes. Will update later. Arms around, Susan
Today is MONDAY= June 1!! going to be a very humid here today. plan to clean out under balcony with my lawn people and cut some greenery thats out of control around the balconies. bills to pay and finances to get done..seems like everything revolves around the first of the month and i count time now by 12 times/yr. hope your week will be a decent one! i am on my first cup of java, starbucks breakfast blend with international delite sugarfree french vanilla! yum! divvi
A cheery good Monday morning to all. I'm just finishing that all-important first cup of coffe. Cats are fed. Dogs are about to be put outside, fed, then walked. After all that, time for another cup of coffee while figuring out how best to put the day to use. It is hot and humid, likely will be sunny, no rain expected although it would be welcome. Have a good day.
