Is anyone else having the problem I'm experiencing of having to sign in again every few minutes? It just started in the past couple of days. A minor inconvenience most of the time, but just now I "lost" a lengthy reply that I'd composed for one of the threads because somehow I got automatically signed out during the few minutes it took me to compose the reply.
I had to sign in again yesterday...for the first time since my original set up. I had cleared out my temporary files earlier, and I thought that was the reason I was 'signed out'. So far, I'm still linked to the site.
Has happened to me a couple times. Just re sign in and be sure the Remember Me button is checked. I figured it happens periodically, like Yahoo does for accessing my e-mail. Every so often I have to redo the password.
yeah, clear out your temp. files... good thing to do, but you will have to sign in again. Also, if you're using firefox, they just brought a new mod out and if you okayed installing it, which is fine, it wiped out your temp files too.
It's not the mac itself we're talking about here - it's the browser. In firefox, it's under Tools - "Clear Private Data." In Safari, it's under Safari (at the left top) then "empty cache". OTHERWISE, the mac does a pretty good job of cleaning out your temp files without you doing a thing (unlike on the PC). Apparently the best thing to do is to let it SLEEP at night instead of shutting down. I have something called Cache-X but I've never used it. After many years - MANY years of dealing with PCs, I'm always astounded at how well the mac handles stuff like caches and memory in general.
Also the browser probably has a thing whereby it will clean its own cache out as soon as you quit it - this means QUIT the application, not just close the current window. That's a setting you can make under Preferences, usually.
Anyone read the article where Melinda Gates tells that Bill forbids ipods/iphones in his house? They are forbidden to use them. Melinda admits she misses having one cause they are better than what Microsoft offers. And the kids - the oldest is 12 and will soon, if not already, be out in the cold with friends.
I used to just minimize the site & come back signed in. Now when I do that, I have to sign in. Security purposes? I don't understand. Not like I have my Amex on the site.
I only have to sign in again if I set Firefox to clear private data. I did this for a while but I am lazy and got tired of signing in. At least user/passwords are saved by Firefox. When I do a virus scan or scan for adware, I will have sign in again cause it deletes whatever keeps you signed in.
I believe the virus scans and adware scans do delete passwords/sign ins on various sites for our own protection. I used to keep my email account on an automatic sign in and my granddaughter showed me how someone could pull up in front of our house, tag on to my computer and have a blast playing with my websites, ordering items, etc. - I even had credit cards 'on line' with Neiman Marcus, etc., just to save time when I ordered things. NOT ANYMORE! My grandchildren took me to the woodshed over that as well! LOL!!! I loved it that they were so cute and bossy with me. Nice to know they care!
Good for the grandkids. Just make sure that they don't let their FRIENDS use your computer... and probably log in and out of your account when you're leaving it for awhile when they're around with friends.
