Some of you may know of this company...I picked up a brochure at the lawyers office yesterday. www.rightathome.com You can click on your state and find if they serve your area. From what I read they do just about everything and charge by the hour. Of course they don't say what the hourly charge would be but they do respite care for caregivers. I just thought it may assist someone who needs help at home.
Jean, are you sure you got the URL right? This appears to be a site for articles and tips ... on how to use Johnson products like Windex, Glade, Ziploc, etc.
...I'm glad they're where you are, divvi. They have two offices in San Diego, one only for north county (I'm central) and one for west ... they draw the line about two miles from my house! Discrimination...
There is another company that I used years ago when I just needed someone for a few hours a week to get out and about by myself. The company name is called Home Instead. The website for this organization is www.homeinstead.com At the time that I used their services they had a minimum of 8 hours a week and I remember that the fee was about $20/hour.
Be careful with these. I talked to Homeinstead and they will not take people who are incontinent. I have also heard that they will not pick someone up if they fall; they'll call 911 no matter what. They're reputable groups, that's not the point, it's just a question of the level of care they're willing to provide. The people are not CNAs. If all you need is companionship, housecleaning etc they may be fine. We've just gone beyond that. The group I have now provides CNAs which will help with bathing, dressing, etc; they charge by what is done. If it's really only custodial care it's $18; if it's more, they may charge more.
Sorry about the .com Sunshyne. It isn't a good day, DH has been going on about his sister in Ohio which has been done over and over and over. She has called 5 times in a week about nothing in particular but it is enough to set DH off.
most websites for home care will specify if they do incontinence -bathing and personal care. most will not give meds to patients either but will help them take them once the doses are ready. i am using one now and it gives me the needed time out per week. i pay 17/hr and they do lite housework as well as all the above. there are many in larger cities who offer these services. divvi
We have a "HomeInstead Sr. Care" here in Arlington, TX and they do everything, except sorting meds into our pill box. The person working for us is a CNA, but she has shared that alot of the workers there are not & they do not get alot of training. Our AnnMarie is an ANGEL! Equipped with wings and halo!! She irons!! She is tender, sweet, kind...a mother of 4 herself and is PERFECT for my husband. After her first "4-hour" visit with us, I returned & he said "She's like a breath of fresh air"...I called in that day & added days to our schedule as she was new to the business. She's been a real blessing, friend, and of course such a great care-giver to my husband...we love her!! I wish this for each of you searching for some relief!!
