So here we go. I think I mentioned that over the last few weeks we have had some major changes Lisa is now mainly in a chair. Result she is calmer has started eating again and seems to be able to communicate better all good news. We also have changed her status in that our main goal now is comfort and safety no life prolonging drugs or procedures, I know this is what she wanted when she could she told me enough times. These were tough decisions. ONe thing that has changed since in the chair, she use to continually walk now that she is not walking all the time she yells, and at times has aggressive behaviour. Should mention the Neurologist, she is also geriatric psychologist, said now that she is not expending so much of her limited brain power in walking she can use that for the other fuctions, eating, talking etc as a result they have improved found that very interesting.
Anyways at our last SORT meeting agreed that drugs not really doing the trick and I hate to see her drugged up just to keep her calm the suggestion lets try cannibus oil. Apparently they have had some success in patients that are aggitated and are continually yelling etc. So we got the local dr who specializes in pain relieve and is also a palliative specialist and had a meeting last week. Very nice lady and very knowledgeable in this area has used cannibus oil with patients to some success. Since it is still illegal here a bit tricky but she can give a prescription for medical marijuana. WE got the prescription and are about to try reducing the other meds and using the oil. If it helps with her quality of life why not. The doctors and the facility are all on board with this so I am hoping this is a great move. We will see and I will keep you posted.
Really sounds interesting. Keep ups updated on her progress. Cannibus will be legal here later this year and it will be interesting to see what happens.
The neurologiist helped get me a. state licence for medical MJ and oil for my severe chronic pain. I tried the strong oil. Got a cough, spent $$$, but no pain relief for me. Some it may help but, for me, personally it did not.
