I got in ten minutes ago from errands feeling hot and tired, to find a message on my voice mail. "This is about your upcoming court case dealing with your fraud and income tax evasion. You need to phone this number **********, and we will...." Something I couldn't catch. So I phoned the number. There was more talk along the same line until I said, "I don't know what you are talking about. Who are you?" More mumble jumble. I said, "I'm going to phone the police." "I'm going to kill you, Mary, and your family." "What did you just say?" Louder, "I'm going to kill you and your family. I know who you are, Mary." It was a young male, with a slight accent. The more he talked, the more pronounced the accent became. I phoned 911, and the police will be coming to listen to the voice mail he left.
I NEVER call those numbers! I've gotten called a couple of times about my taxes, but I screen my calls, so they never get a reply. Big scam, but I don't know what they're trying to do. I'm glad you've called the authorities...they need to be aware of these things. Good luck with it.
I still get the odd phone call about Eric's estate, which is handled by Royal Trust. The latest was about a refund coming from an investment firm who said they had overcharged on his fees. Nothing has ever come from that, and I'm beginning to suspect that it was a scam, too.
