Many couples have 'their' song. For us, I adopted the Carpenters "For All We Know'. Getting married 11 days later we really did not know each other.

    "For All We Know"

Love, look at the two of us
    Strangers in many ways
We've got a lifetime to share
    So much to say
    And as we go
    From day to day
I'll feel you close to me
    But time alone will tell
Let's take a lifetime to say
    "I knew you well"
For only time will tell us so
    And love may grow
    For all we know.

Love, look at the two of us
    Strangers in many ways
Let's take a lifetime to say
    "I knew you well"
For only time will tell us so
    And love may grow

    For all we know.

After meeting his parents for me personally I adopted the song 'Down in the Boondocks'. Since I grew up next to a railroad I guess I did live on one side of the tracks. His parents tried to make out they were so well to do when in reality they were not. They raised three kids in a one bedroom house. The boys slept on beds in the enclosed porch and their sister had a bed in sort of hallway cubby whole. They were a 'keep up with the Jones' type of people. I could care less. I grew up on 15 acres out in the boonies. The whole outdoors were my playground because the nearest neighbor was a mile away through the woods. Every other direction was miles to neighbors which meant we had all those woods to explore and play in. We grew all our veggies, beef and pork, fresh milk daily from our own cow, and had more 'pets' than my husband ever had (he actually never had one). My mom made my clothes or they were hand me downs - most were from a cousin whose dad played pro baseball so they were not cheap clothes. But, I preferred jeans, t-shirts, etc.

    MY song changed for me:

    Down in the boondocks
    Down in the boondocks
    People put me down 'cause
That's the side of town I was born in
I love hem he loves me but I don't fit in his society
Lord have mercy on the girl from down in the boondocks

Ours was "Who Needs You" by The Four Lads.

    Lyrics
Who needs you to drive me out of my mind
Who needs you, I'd like to know
Who needs you to give me chills when I'm well
How fast can a helpless heart go
I know dear I love you more than a lot
But oh what I got to go through
And so dear I guess the answer is simply
    Who needs you, I do

    Each time we kiss goodnight
I find that I get so excited
    I can't sleep all night
    I've lost my appetite
No appetite no sleep at night

Who needs you, I'd like to know
How fast can a helpless heart go
I know dear I love you more than a lot
But oh what I got to go through
And so dear I guess the answer is simply
Who needs you, who needs you, I do
  1.
We first met when I was 18 and he was 25. I was heading to college so we dated just a couple months and I moved away. He was always the one I never got out of my mind and wondered what would have happened. We both got married, not to each other yet, and ultimately both divorced. Ironically enough it was within a month of each other. It was his birthday and the year was 1993. He came to mind because I remembered it was his birthday. On a whim I called him (Yikes!) and it went to voicemail. The message sounded like he was single so I took a chance and left him a message. He called the next day. We went on our first date (again) after 13 years. 2 months later he asked me to marry him and I said yes! We married the following March. We've been married for 23 years as of last month. This song just struck a chord with me because I was no longer the young girl I was a grown woman. It wasn't infatuation the second time around it was different and he was the one for me! That's my love story and this is our song.

I Don't Want To Live Without You by Foreigner

I find myself in a strange situation
    And I don't know how
What seemed to be an infatuation
    Is so different now
I can't get by if we're not together
    Ooh can't you see
Girl, I want you now and forever
    Close to me
    I'm longing for the time
    I'm longing for the day
Hoping that you will promise to be mine
    And never go away

I don't want to live without you
I don't want to live without you
I could never live without you
    Live without your love

My first husband and I spent our weekend honeymoon in Seattle, and it rained all the time. Wherever we went, we heard the song, "It isn't raining rain you know, it's raining violets." I tried to find the lyrics on Google and can't. There's Al Jolson and Judy Garland singing it, but that's not the song I remember. It was more jazz, more contemporary. Oh, well, it will come to me in the middle of the night.

With Eric, we met in May with its beautiful weather. Frank Sinatra' singing "The Summer Wind" was on the radio all the time. It is my theme song with Eric.

    "Summer Wind"
The summer wind, came blowin' in from across the sea
It lingered there to touch your hair and walk with me
All summer long we sang a song and then we strolled that golden sand
Two sweethearts and the summer wind

Like painted kites, those days and nights, they went flyin' by
The world was new beneath a blue umbrella sky
Then softer than a piper man one day it called to you
I lost you, I lost you to the summer wind

The autumn wind and the winter winds, they have come and gone
And still the days, those lonely days, they go on and on
And guess who sighs his lullabies through nights that never end
My fickle friend, the summer wind

    The summer wind
    Warm summer wind
    Mmm, the summer wind

Aww, Charlotte. You made me cry.

    When I dream of you
    I'm asking myself
If dreams can ever come true.
WhenI dream of you I feel so alive
Cuz you give me wings go fly.

When I look into your eyes
I know my dream has come true
Cuz I see me holding you.
I'm lying in your arms and you're touching me,
There's no place I'd rather be.

    I don't need to fear
Cuz I'm living my dream every time when you are near.
Forever and a day I will always stay
Because nobody loves me like you do.

    (Werner Tauber)

We danced to this at our wedding. It is a slow waltz.

From yesterday's post: My first husband and I spent our weekend honeymoon in Seattle, and it rained all the time. Wherever we went, we heard the song, "It isn't raining rain you know, it's raining violets." I tried to find the lyrics on Google and can't. The title did come. It's "Pennies from Heaven," as sung by Frank Sinatra.

Every time it rains, it rains pennies from heaven
Don't you know each cloud contains pennies from heaven?
You'll find your fortune's fallin' all over the town
Be sure that your umbrella is upside down

Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers
If you want the things you love, you must have showers
So, when you hear it thunder, don't run under a tree
There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me

[lengthy instrumental-sax solo and then brass]

Every time, every time it rains, it's gonna rain pennies from heaven
Don't you know every cloud contains lots of pennies from heaven
You'll find your fortune's fallin', baby, all over the town
Be sure, be sure that your umbrella is upside down

Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers
If you want the things you love, you've got to have showers
So, when you hear it thunder, don't run under a tree
There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me

Mary, I was going to suggest "April Showers" for the lyrics you mentioned in the first comment.

I remember "Pennies from Heaven" too, humming to the words you posted.

When Dan & I were trying to get our home & family established, the song was "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters. They were even playing the instrumental of it at our bank that we dealt with. Meant to be.

My husband and I were married in 1983. Willie Nelson's "Always on my Mind" came out around that time and was way overplayed on the radio. We wanted to come up with "our song" and Always on my Mind did not fit us at all. That was not our song at all. He treated me better than anyone ever has. But that song played constantly in 1983 during the time we were married and we never came up with our perfect song. So for years after that whenever we heard it, we would joke that "our song" was playing, even though we knew it wasn't really our song. I heard "Always on my Mind" on the radio for the first time in years about a month ago. And I thought: the song finally fits.

    Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
    Maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have
If I made you feel second best
Girl I'm sorry I was blind

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

And maybe I didn't hold you
    All those lonely, lonely times
I guess I never told you
I'm so happy that you're mine

Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
But you were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me, give me one more chance
    To keep you satisfied
    I'll keep you satisfied

Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
But you were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Julied, I've always loved this song. It is bitter-sweet to read the lyrics now. Regrets, I have a few.

I agree, mary75*. The lovelier the song, the sadder it is. This thread is really heartbreaking.
  2.
    I agree on several points...
yes, I have a few regrets
    Yes, it is sad
    Yes, it's heartbreaking
    But.........
It's also a beautiful reminder of a time and place when we were blissfully happy and in love with a romantic song playing in the background stirring our senses and emotions for our spouse. That special little thing you shared together and could just exchange a look when you heard it and feel the butterflies in your stomach again.
I think this thread is about that too.

I enjoy reading all the songs and why they are special to you.
