Hello All, it's been forever since I have visited here. So good to catch up on posts....but as always this is never an easy journey, I know. We moved my hubs to a great facility this fall, it's a mile away! I have applied for Medicaid. We were hoping to retain about half of hubs pension/SSDI income, but it looks like it will be more like 1/4.
I have 2 kids in college and pay rent on their off campus housing, plus give them a food allowance, they are both student athletes so they really can't work during college.

Does any one know of someone else who applied for Medicaid with college age children??? Our lawyer is trying to find case law to support our case to keep more of hubs monthly income and can't find any previous cases.

Have you spoken to someone at your kids colleges? Maybe they have some way to help them or have worked with a family that have gone through the he same things.

Check specific scholarships, especially local ones. For one year my son had a small scholarship for young people with a disabled parent. In his case it was his father. Every dollar counts.

You need to consult with an eldercare attorney. I understand that in the 5 year loopback school expenses you pay will have to be repaid by them. It is seen as a generational transfer of wealth and thus not allowed. That is my understanding. It might differ by state, there might be ways around it. Some expenses might be allowed and others disallowed.
