My name is Linda, my husband & I live in West Palm Beach, Fl., USA. Frank was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 8 years ago. We have been married 30 years, he will be 90 in April of next year. I am 66. I remember way back, when he was diagnosed, I was told about a book, "The 36 Hour Caregiver" ..... that has been so much help to me during this journey. I recommend it to anyone in our situation. Physically he is in good shape. He will probably live to be 100, like his father, or his brother who died at the age of 102. I am not so sure I will last that long! I can't complain though, I am fortunate to have 3 caregivers, everyday. 9-5, 5-9, and 9-9. When this started, he ask me to promise to not ever put him in a nursing home ..... I'm doing my best to honor his request.
Anyway, I'm glad I found you all! Will be nice to have someone to talk to and share things with. I'd be more than happy to try to help too, if you have a question or concern .....
Welcome Linda. You are blessed to have the caregivers. My husband was opposite because his mother died caring for his dad. He made me promise not to let AD take me like it did his mom. We are in year 9 and looking forward to when he can be placed.
Welcome, Linda. Glad to hear you have some help in place. (And I guess you are not fighting snow and ice--sounds great!) A very Merry Christmas to you, too.
Thank you for the nice welcome. Yes, it's warm here, mid 80's this past week. We are hoping for a cool front, might go down into the 70's for Christmas! Bah Hum Bug! But, I sure would not want all that snow, some of you have!
Linda, I just realized the age difference between you and your husband is about the same as between me and Larry. (24 and a half years for us). The same age difference as between Celine Dion and her husband. Unusual but not unheard of.
