I've probably brought this up before, but I really need advice on this. DH wakes up most mornings feeling queasy. He seems to do ok the rest of the day. This morning he said he didn't feel good and I could hear his intestines/stomach gurgling. I got him up and going, gave him a Zantac. I can't miss any more work. I just started the new job in April and don't have a whole lot of sick/vacation time yet. Why would this be happening mainly in the mornings? Should I try giving him something to eat before he goes to bed? Do any of you have experience with this? Is it AD related?

    Any advice is apprecialted.

    Kelly, he's pregnant! <grin>

Crackers and 7-Up used to work for nausea for us.......you could try it. It could be just changes in his system - or has he begun any new medications recently?

either a med he is taking? try some o the new yogourt for the intestines? i give yogourt daily now usually at am or pm after meds. it seems to reduce the upsets. if you are giving pm meds by all means give him something before or after. even tylenol makes me queasy without anything in stomach. if he doesnt improve you may need to consult with his dr -ps watch his BM and see thats ok if he has diarreah then call his dr he may have a virus of sorts. divvi

I would talk with his doctor. It is entirely possible he needs to take something like Zantac on a regular basis, but Zantac is a medicine, it could interact with other meds, etc.; and if something new is developing, the doctor needs to know. My husband is on Zantac 2x per day; he had a lot of trouble in the late night/early morning with heartburn and nausea, probably acid reflux disease. It was affected, in part, by what he was eating/drinking in the evening, and then lying down allowed the acid to come back up into the esophagus more easily overnight. But we could not control it entirely by diet, or by having him sleep partly propped up on two pillows, hence the Zantac.

My husband's doctor has him on Prevacid for the acid reflux. Your husband's doctor would be the one to prescribe the proper medication for what will go with what he is already taking. Most give Zantac like Sunshyne says. Good calls, Divvi and Sunshyne!

mine is also on prilosec OTC for yrs now with acid reflux. hes even had to have his esophagus 'stretched' with stents from scarring from the acids. if its acid reflux its quite irritating if its not controlled daily. my DH cant even swallow properly if he misses 2days worth. it gets stuck! divvi

My DW has significant bloating after eating which gets worse as the day goes on, so by after supper she looks at least 7 months pregnant (she isn't). I have discussed this with her doctor and she has done various test with no answer. I have given her Gas-Ex reqularly with not much help. She is already on Omeprazole (Prilosec). Possibly related is that I have a hard time getting her to eat her breakfast. She just sits there looking at it. Sometimes she tells me she doesn't feel well, but not often. Lunch and supper go well, with her eating everything on her plate.

I wonder if all of this is part of AD, with the brain not sending the proper signals to the intestines.

Lactose intolerance, and she has milk at breakfast? I have a definite problem with bloating later in the day, especially if I eat a high-fiber cereal.

That never has been a problem in the past, but I will look into it. Her breakfast consists of Cheerios with milk, English Muffin with marmalade, coffee (black) and orange juice. This has been the pattern for many years, before the onset of AD or the bloating.

My mother developed a problem with orange juice after the AD got going. She loved orange juice, drank it for as long as I can remember.

Would your wife perhaps be eating something with Olestra in it?

My husband had about 3 wks of nausea...he said his stomach just didn't feel right...gave him 7-up which seemed to help. This was very unusual for him because before AD, I always kidded him that he had an "iron gut", he never got sick and could eat anything....maybe it is a part of AD?

my dh takes omeprazole twice daily. he takes it because of taking celebrex,it upsets his stomach and the omeprazole helps. his main complaint is just staying cold all the time. we have discussed this before on another thread, "staying cold and chilled" i have learned from you all this is part of the ad. he is going downhill so fast,i just can't believe it. he still looks healthy, except when you look in his eyes, but his mental state is just unbelievable. he has gone done so much, just in the last month or so. some days are better than others, but i now have to tell him when to take a shower, most of the time,to use soap and deodorant. i now have to shave him. the other day he was going to get in the shower with his socks and underware on and i said, 'no,you need to take those off first' and he said what do i do? some days he gets mixed up which room to go to, to take a shower. this is all so terrible. this morning at 10:00am social security is supposed to call me for information on him getting disability. i am afraid to get my hopes up that he will get to draw something. we have farm bills that are worring me to death. i am so ashamed that we owe these bills,we never had a problem with the farm paying for itself before, now we just don't have that income and it is rough going. i keep thinking that we will pay the bills somehow. i never say anything in front of dh about the bills and try to keep things that will worry him, from him. he has started saying that he has got to get a job, bless his heart,he can't do anything anymore it is just so heartbreaking. jav

My DH has been on Prilosec since he had a bleeding ulcer from Advil. He is never interested in breakfast, just not hungry, but if I put something in front of him that he likes, he will eat it. Lots of waffles get eaten in our house. One day without prilosec however, and he is suffering with acid reflux so he can't even swallow. He also has a small gullet, which actually could be stretched, but I don't want to put him through that since he's doing all right, just eats really slowly. He always had, it's a joke in our house, but I try never to rush him because then he'll just stop eating, and he's already lost 30 lbs. I don't want him to lose any more.
Off track, but you just reminded me JAV, My husband is constantly worries about money, and has become pecular about spending it. He grew up during the depression, so I'm sure that's what's causing it. I had plenty of frequent flyer miles for this trip we are leaving on today, so I got the tickets for my daughter's family. When he realized that he got all upset because we should have used them ourselves. PS, we also got free airfare on another airline for frequent flyer miles. He's just so funny about money nowadays. Not that we have a lot, but we are OK. he thinks he should go back to work 9LOL, he's 85 and has been retired for 18 yrs, since he was 68).

Jav, what is Omeprazole? Is it a prescription med? Maybe I'll check into getting DH on that. I stopped his Namenda for the past couple of days at the suggestion of the neurologist to see if that's causing the nausea, but so far, it hasn't helped. DH seems more agitated since then too, even more confused, so I think I'll put him back on it. I'm starting to think it is a symptom of the AD.

    Kelly -

Omeprazole is the generic name for the drug Prilosec (purple box) which can now be purchased OTC. Many drug store and big box stores now stock their own brand usually labeled as Omeprazole.

Prilosec OTC has a warning on it that it can only be used for 14 days. I take it every day, but did run it past my doctor before I took the 15th pill. I don't have acid reflux, but I've got a really messed up gut. My doctor said that it was OK to take it BUT she needed to know I was on it. Since she was planning on putting me on the higher dosage generic prescription of the same drug it was a good thing the smaller OTC dosage worked.

Try it. If it works tell the doctor and ask if you can keep giving it. If it works, but not as good as you would like, ask for the higher dosage generic prescription.
