My mother has had delusional disorder and some signs of dementia/alzheimers for close to four years now, but two months ago her doctor upped her dose of lorazepam so she can take it two times a day. ( due to extreme anxiety) At that time she went from only being delusional part of the time and somewhat being able to control/conceal it, to now being delusional 100% of the time and Much worse delusions! She is suffering! It's heartbreaking! Could this be from the lorazepam?!?!? She also has the persecutory type! Please help! Would her regular doctor be aware that this could be the cause? Or is this new and on proven information? Help!!!!

    Lyndapie,

I would strongly suggest that you contact the doctor who prescribed the medication, and explain the situation to him/ her. Any time a change in medication type or dosage is prescribed, it is best to report patient side effects to the doctor immediately.

I am the owner and administrator of this site, and need to point out to you that this message board is designed for spouses of Alzheimer patients to discuss issues that are specific to spouses.

There are a multitude of helpful sites for adult children caring for parents. I would advise starting with the forums on www.alz.org.
