Frig done and now waiting to get cool. He said it could take 6 hours so need to buy another bag of ice probably. Think we will go out someone for dinner.
Oh garbage will come Monday. Holidays don't stop them - extra pay for them.
The Philadelphia Story is also on right now. The Philadelphia Story isn't a great copy but I can get it for you if you like. It does have Cary Grant.
As Charlotte knows and perhaps others. when you're a prisoner by design it's good to get away for a bit once in a while - especially when you don't have to go anywhere and can pause when you want to. Click on your mouse on the picture anywhere to pause. From then on you can use the space bar to pause and unpause. So much easier.
Philadelphia Story, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, and the mad cap 1920's
This was a tough week for me. On Monday, I took my husband to the hospital for a CT scan. The strangeness and all the walking were hard on him and he freaked out after I brought him back to the dementia unit. That night I learned that an old friend had died at age 62. We worked together in the early '80s and we had rarely seen each other since then but always stayed in touch. Last year he retired and moved from CA to Denver and in October he visited me here. We had a good time catching up and found we were the same old friends, just older. Last week I called his cell and there was no service and no reply to my emails. I finally got the email address of one of his friends out West and she emailed me that he had died. (They knew my name but did not know how to reach me.) It turns out he had had surgery for a broken ankle and was sent home and found dead next to his bed. Speculation is blood clot or heart attack. I was in shock for days.
Went to see my husband today and after supper we sat on the porch of the veterans' home and entertained ourselves by watching the cars that drove up to drop people off. My husband makes no sense most of the time but he still holds my hand and gives me kisses and tonight he said, quite intelligibly, "I love you, you know."
Thanks, guys. When you are single for a long time, as I was, your friends become like family, especially if you are far from home. Elizabeth, I like your idea (posted on the Widows thread) of memorizing poems. I grew up memorizing poems and I often have snippets of them floating around in my head. Wolf, I can picture you walking around reciting a long poem by Robert Service!
There were strange things done in the kitchen mum By some with this rust in their brain The winding trails have their strange tales After which nothing is ever the same These Northern Lights have seen queer sights But the queerest they ever did see Was when Dianne in the chair pulled them down right there And decided right then to pee
I will arise and go now, for always at the break of day I hear my husband sneak out of the house before I can get to the door; He’s off down the driveway, and heads for the highway, Setting off alarm bells galore.
