That was a very good program. I don't usually like films or videos about Alz because they are so full of emotion and sadness and, as I like to say, I have my own Alzheimer's movie going on right here. Anyhow, the explanation of the systematic research program appealed to me and allowed me to get a little distance from the sadness. Thanks again for recommending it, bluedaze*.
Thanks Bluedaze. I just happened to see your posting at 9:15 and was able to watch the program. My DH has genetic EOAD and he and many members of his family are in research now. I was uplifted by the progress the scientists are making. DH participated in the clinical trial in Pittsburg for Pittsburg compound B (PIB). This is the compound that is used in PET scans to image beta-amyloid plaques in neuronal tissue. We met one of the team leads, Dr. Klunk, that invented the compound on both of our trips to Pittsburg. I would recommend to anyone who has familial EOAD to try to get involved in research. We found it to be a very meaningful experience and met wonderful, kind people in the process. DH interrupted my watching of the program with a mini-crisis. When I told him that his volunteering in the PET scan study is helping advance the research, he was very happy. Our daughter is deciding whether to participate in phase 2 of a drug trial. It is scary but the show made me more hopeful.
