I have been having a problem finding pull-up chinos for my husband. If I do find an all elastic waist they fasten with
a button or snap and a zipper. I want something like the printed men's PJ in solid colors that you can wear anywhere.
I seen a pair of "fishing pants at Belk's today but wrong size. They had an all elastic waist with a velcro hook and were made out of "parachute-type soft polyester fabric that I love. I am going to try and find them on the Internet. They also had the zip off shorts feature for summer. Pretty pricy. lmohr

I got my husband's at Penneys, mail order. They do have a button and zipper but like many pull-up pants we can buy for women, they're inconspicuous and unnecessary. Between them and pull-up Depends you can get them to the toilet pretty quickly...

Imohr, the ones at Penney's with an all elastic waist have a button and zipper, but you don't HAVE to use them. They pull on just like pjs and sweats and are really comfortable (according to my husband). They were mentioned here at Joan's place months ago and I got my husband a pair that look like faded denim. I've just ordered two more in khaki - they are Towncraft Elastic-Waist Cotton Pants and two pair were under $40.00 (before S&H). I ordered them online.

we use alot of cotton or nylon jogging sets, we can usually go anywhere in them and they are really cute all colorful and easy for DH to get in/out of . Blairs.com has some too and very inexpensive if you look they have chinos too.

Good information for my memory bank--just in case??

    Thanks for your imput.

I have 2 pair from Penney's and 2 pair from Blair but he still has a fit problem. He is bent over from the waist almost 2:30 by the clock from the spinal stenosis and they still tend to fall down on him. In order to get them big enough to pull over his hips they are too big in the waist. Those PJ and sweat pants work ok so I will see if I can find some other choices for him. (p.s. Blair has great jogging suits for women in the parachute type polyester. I have 4 sets of them. They don't mess up and dry quickly, my favorite) lmohr

imohr i know and i buy DH jogsuits on sale at Blair, and have got as low as 24.00 those gorgeous winter velous ones for winter reg 80dol-. he LOVES those, and a few for myself. i do love the silk ones too. do you have a TJMAXX where you live,? i found lots of those cotton elastic pj types by sports brands for 12dol, and they are good brands like nike. i guess you could have them altered in the waist? my DH has super skinny legs and larger waist so i have had his med size waist enlarged up to 2in -it works well. was only 6dol to alter, divvi

Making them smaller in the waist would be an easy fix for anyone who does alterations. Take him to your friendly cleaner's and ask for help. Explain that he might have problems trying things on for her, and bring along something that fits him in the waist so she can measure that if he won't cooperate. If they are all the same brand and size she might only need to have him try on one pair.

I've beens searching for "adaptive pants" for my LO for awhile. In my case, I'm looking for pants (esp. jeans) w/ a velcro fly that also look *good*. I think I've finally found the site, and they have what you're looking for too! They're pricey, but if they work... I'm placing an order tomorrow.

Why a velcro fly? Why any fly at all? And please define "good".

At the point where adaptive clothing is a reasonable direction to go in, most of our LOs couldn't handle a velcro fly any better than the zipper they have been using all their lives.

I'm asking because I think you might want to talk to some of the more experienced people on this site. In this case I'm not one of them. My husband still takes care of all his dressing and showering needs on his own with no problems. He is one of those patients who is going to lose his verbal abilities before anything else. But if he can't handle a zipper, he won't be able to handle velco any better.

i guess it depends on what stage and if they are able to work the fly or not. in my case, using reg clothing with zips/buttons, or anything other than just elastic pulldowns, was hindering his ablility to get his clothing off 'in time.' esp belts, - some jeans do look better than others and i guess its style and taste for each person. i felt bad for yrs, as DH wore 2k suits to work, he was a clothes horse, and loved to spend on the best things. it was just his thing, now i have him in elastic jog type suits or the chino type pullups and they work well. i have all his suits, dress pants, jeans still in his closet. its all about comfort and necessities at this point. divvi

The ones with the velcro look like what I need. Several features I like. I have called to order but they are in Ca. and not open yet. I will post results after we get them.

Tried suspenders and overalls and he has trouble with the mechanics involved. The plain front pants I am ordering have a velcro fly which we don't need because he sits on the commode, but there are no buttons or snaps. Ideally I would like a velcro opening on the side like a ladies pants since he doesn't use the fly. They have them with the opening on the side but it is on both sides and the whole pants open up flat. lmohr

Ordered a pair of beige with velcro from Easy Fit and she said I would get them the middle of next week. California??? Can't wait.
Pants are a big issue here. lmohr

Jeny--I like the idea of the side-opening pants instead of the front. Wonder why they have to have both sides open. Can't one side be sewn up or maybe velcro and only use the one side? We don't need these yet but he may one day and I'd like to be prepared.

    Great information!

I've used Haband for hubby's clothes a lot. He prefers sweats with pockets. Also they have extended sizes--great when we needed 4X. Also get T-shirts with pockets there. They have lots of styles, colors, and for every possible activity. On line, often offer free shipping or a set shipping for total order regardless of size of order. Quality has been really good for his clothes. Only negative I've found with them is their extended sizes for ladies don't seem to match same sizes from other places---run small.

Mawzy, I think the two sets of velcro are for changing diapers, pretty much like toddler clothes open up almost flat for the same reasons.

I've been poking around the Bigtree Murphy site since Starling (I think it was) pointed to some really good pages there.

And I've found a great page there that has tips on how to dress AD patients:

Mary, thanks for your comment on the Towncraft Elastic Waist pants. I just ordered a couple of pairs for hubby from Penney's. I did find some knit elastic waist pants at a Penney's store last spring. They are okay looking for wearing around home. In the wintertime, he wears sweat pants as he complains of being cold all the time.

I received the casual pants from Ca. with the velcro fly. My husband has lost weight and they were too large. I liked the looks of them but they didn't have pockets. We have to have pockets so I returned the pants and didn't re-order. I did
order 2 more pair from Blair in a size smaller hoping that will work.

Boy was I lucky. At Big Lots I found pull up pants with elastic waist and drawstring with two pockets. They are Fruit of the Loom and cost $4.00

thank you ladies this is what I remembrered. My husbands issue is he claims everything is too tight even tho he has lost a ton of weight and he will not leave buttons, zippers, hooks alone. Spent yesterday repairing things he had torn off, or pitching because he had ripped the whole sections where buttons, button holes are. Isn't this fun! you gals are great

This discussion was buried in the back....I thought I would bring it to the front for anyone new who needs the information.

By the way, we have four pair from Penney's that I got over a year and a half ago, and they get washed every 2 or 3 days, and still look like new.....and didn't shrink either!

We also bought the pants from Penney's. The ones I found do have buttons and zippers, but the elastic is stretchy enough that you don't need to unbutton or unzip to get them on or off.

I found a company in Maine that sells the elastic strretch waist, no fly, but were a bit pricey...$24, plus shipping. The good news is that Walmart sells them, $9.00, four different colors, and great quality.
