I am trying to figure out if my DH life insurance proceeds I received are taxable. His employer paid for 1x salary, I paid for an additional 1x. I did receive a w2 for imputed income for the employer part. My state says I have to pay on part. But if I check on line it says that I do not. I am so confused. I have a call to an accountant but it being November they are swamped with people who filed extensions. It could be a small amount or large. Anyone received it and knows anything would be of help.

Here are some answers. They do not replace the advice of an accountant.

Here is what the IRS has to say:

Jackie, I would run this past your tax accountant. What I received (small amount) was not taxed...but I just don't know anything about this subject. I still use the same tax man that we used for years. Taxes aren't due until April 15, so you have plenty of time, I think, to get the answers you need from a professional.
