I am trying to figure out if my DH life insurance proceeds I received are taxable. His employer paid for 1x salary, I paid for an additional 1x. I did receive a w2 for imputed income for the employer part. My state says I have to pay on part. But if I check on line it says that I do not. I am so confused. I have a call to an accountant but it being November they are swamped with people who filed extensions. It could be a small amount or large. Anyone received it and knows anything would be of help.
Here is what the IRS has to say: https://www.irs.gov/Help-&-Resources/Tools-&-FAQs/FAQs-for-Individuals/Frequently-Asked-Tax-Questions-&-Answers/Interest,-Dividends,-Other-Types-of-Income/Life-Insurance-&-Disability-Insurance-Proceeds/Life-Insurance-&-Disability-Insurance-Proceeds
Jackie, I would run this past your tax accountant. What I received (small amount) was not taxed...but I just don't know anything about this subject. I still use the same tax man that we used for years. Taxes aren't due until April 15, so you have plenty of time, I think, to get the answers you need from a professional.
