And I feel so relieved! My lawyer/eldercare people tell me the process should take one to two months. I have been scouting out NHs and have settled on one nearby. I have mulled it for many months and now feel ok with my decicion. I have thought many times I would do this, it's been long and hard. I've dealt with it all, you name it. My DH is starting to pilfer in things, he's wanting to fix things, that aren't messed up. He hardly makes sense , but still speaks. He has trouble getting up, but ambulates very well. He eats well if it's placed in front of him. I do everything else. He is relatively healthy except for AD. We've been married 45 yrs. I think I've kept him home so long because I don't want to b alone. I've never lived alone. But I'm going to start just being a wife, not caregiver!

I am glad you are at peace with your decision. That is half the battle. The Medicaid process was so much less painful than I feared it would be after reading the horror stories here. Everyone we encountered along the way was so kind and helpful to me. I had the assistance of my eldercare attorney too. He has a Medicaid specialist on his staff and he walked me through each step along the way. Good luck...I hope it all works out the way you envision. As soon as you are free to do so, meet me somewhere halfway for lunch some day. I am in the Nashville area.
