Is this a phase that will stop one of these days? If I leave my purse open on the bed, he's telling me about "the kids" coming in and taking stuff. At night he has to hide his wallet. We live in an "over 55 community" so there aren't any kids around. I know I shouldn't tell him that there aren't any as I guess he really believes there are some getting in.

those guys and those kids, are common phrases here, Carolyn! my DH is in the stage 6 and its been going on for yrs! i find humour in it and i now always ask, have you seen the guys today or where are those kids today?? he never seems to falter to know an answer to this one question! and he goes directly to the mirror and talks to the guys there. or to the window to look for the kids- maybe its just his/your reflections and he doesnt know who they are anymore..it may relieve his stress to just go along with it for the time. divvi

Divvi, I do the same thing with Lynn. The other night he had my niece in tears as he came out of the room and said someone was peeking in through his window. He was all upset! I am use to this, but the kids aren't. The kids father is an abusive drunk, and my sister divorced him last year. It was ugly! So of course my niece was scared to death it was him outside the window.

I had to convince her, he was looking outside as the neighbors had fireworks, and he caught his own reflection and thought it was someone outside peeking in on him! Poor baby, I had to take her outside and show her there were no footprints and the grass and shrubs were not disturbed.

He also hides things as those neighbor kids keep stealing our stuff! lol I just go along with it as well.
There is also a bunny outside he has been trying to catch all week. I even give him carrots for it.
Now the laugh will be on me, if there really IS a rabbit out there and he comes walking in with it LOL

I told him to show me the next time he saw them. He said that I wouldn't see them. Guess he's right. This is the wildest disease. Half the time he's perfectly normal. I guess I'll just be happy with those times. I know a lot of you are going thru a lot worse.

That is a very good attitude Carolyn and will help carry you through the hard times. The sooner one can learn to accept and enjoy what you have today, the better it will be for you all around. It is the futile struggle of trying to desperately hold on to once was that just about kills you. But yes, this is the wildest "ride" I have ever been on, and it doesn't stop to let you off either.
