As you know my daughter is a dementia care specialist for a gigundo nursing home chain specializing in dementia care-duh!She just called me asking for names of musicals that folks in their 60s and 70s would enjoy. Their residents are getting younger and music is a touch stone for happier times.
Like marche, I'm assuming you mean musical theatre, not music in general.
I'm in my sixties. I did not pay any attention to Broadway musicals when I was a teenager, but the musicals I remember being popular when I was in my twenties were Cabaret, Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, Oliver, the Rose, The Wiz, Fiddler on the Roof, Grease.
For people who like the history of rock & roll, an excellent musical is The Buddy Holly Story because it includes numbers from many different artists of the 1950s.
If Elvis fans, any of his would be good my favorite being Blue Hawaii. Sound of Music, even Mary Poppins, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, http://www.examiner.com/article/the-greatest-movie-musicals-of-the-60s
Thank you all-the list is enough to get her started. I wish I had know a person like my daughter when I placed my husband. She became a dementia care specialist after what she saw the disease did to both her dad and me.
bluedaze, please thank your daughter for all her great work in the dementia field. I'm sure we all needed someone like her during our journey. Sad to say there are so very few knowledgeable resources available in our communities. That's one of the reasons why this site is so important.
