I have a new inexpensive computer and learning to use windows 8. When I go to scroll down on some websites including this one, the type face becomes 6 or 8 point, not 11 or 12. It's killing my eyes!

It even happened on my email home page (MSN) but I can not see the menu above the msn page because there's a favorites bar which is blocking the file, settings, print menu. Can anyone help??

I'm not too knowledgeable about computers but I just got a new computer, too, and I had the same problem. Because of the kind of work I do, Windows 7 was recommended for me. On Windows 7, there is a toolbar at the top with a thing called "View," which is on the left side of "Favorites." If you click on "View," there is a drop down menu that includes items called "Zoom" and "Text Size." I fooled around with both of them until I got the type size I wanted. (I ended up choosing Text Size "Medium" and Zoom "125%.") I don't know if this is the same on Windows 8.

I think hitting the Control and the plus key and the top will work
also Control and the minus key will make it smaller
    Try this

I have windows 7 and although it is usually how I want it, sometimes when I go to a certain page the type will get smaller. Then I just hit control+ and get it back. Why it changes also baffles me.

I'm going to try control+. It's a lot easier than my clunky method!

YEAH Honey! It worked. Glad to know wasn't the only one who had this problem.

Charlotte, gremlins must crawl into the compute when we're not looking!

Myrtle, I can do it your way in windows 7 but there's no tool bar on windows 8.

I have Windows 7 and hold down the ctrl and run scroll wheel on the mouse up or down to change type size.

Mousewheel and +/- keys both work similarly.

By hitting Alt plus X you bring up the text size menu along with print etc. It's usually called Zoom and I go there to set the exact size I want on balance for the sites I visit.

Both the mousewheel and plus minus keys with the control key down usually works in 5% increments. Using the menu lets you pick 127% for example. Once set, all windows come up this size.

So my clunky way of enlarging the typeface (although chosen out of ignorance of simpler methods) was not all wrong. To tell you the truth, the way I do this is representative of the way I do a lot of other things. Sometimes, I think my whole life has become one big workaround.
