I keep hoping that I am just having a bad dream. We have been married for over 50 years and lived in the same house. Now my dear loving wife accuses me of switching the freezer and the wash machine for an older "piece of junk", and given ours to another woman. I have been unable to convince her that she is absolutely wrong. I don't know what to do. I have not yet told anything to our 3 children.
I think you should make a call to her doctor's office and let them know what is going on, so she can be fully evaluated....if you can, set up an appointment for her and accompany her. Otherwise, if she already has an appointment with them in the near future, you will have given them a heads up, so they can evaluate her confusion. Good luck to you. There can be many reasons for the confusion....are there any other signs of unusual or different (for her) behaviors?
Welcome to my website. Bella is absolutely correct. Call her primary care doctor and let him/her know what is going on and how concerned you are. Document all and any unusual signs and symptoms, including physical - unsteady gait? Falling? Insist on an evaluation, and a recommendation to a neurologist specializing in dementia. It is entirely possible that dementia is NOT the cause, as there are many conditions that can cause the behavior of which you speak. Many are reversible, which is why it is so important to get an evaluation. They do all of the testing to rule out other causes. When all other causes are ruled out, they diagnose dementia. Some of the conditions that mimic dementia are mini strokes, brain tumor( often benign), vitamin B deficiency, dehydration, and NPH (Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus - fluid on the brain - reversible by draining the fluid).
