Im going a bit crazy over this issue. My husband has had bm problems for a while now and is now seeing a dr as Xrays show he is so full of bm and yet not going. So he has been on laxatives and still only goes (explosively) every 3rd day. Well along with this problem he has stopped urinating. How can someone not go pee for 12 hours!! He has plenty to drink all day. When he does go, it is dark brown from being so concentrated. If I suggest he try on toilet, he gets angry and threatening to me. I feel like Im trying to toilet a resistant toddler. He wears depends at night and sometimes soils them but never wets them. What is he doing with all the urine? Anyone else had experience with this problem? I think he has lost the messages that he needs to go but wouldn't his body take over....?

abauche, I am so sorry you are experiencing this with your DH. When my husband was placed in a hospital for a geri-psych stay, they put him on Zyprexa and he ended up very 'bound up'. Because he was so constipated and could not have a BM, a blockage was created and the urine could not get through. The ALF spent 10 days getting him back to normal, but that included catheters, enemas, laxatives and I cannot remember what else. He was very agitated because he was uncomfortable and in pain. It took a lot of focused work on their part and they were wonderful. Not sure if you can accomplish the same thing at home by yourself. Maybe you should talk to the Dr again. Good luck with this.

abauche, there are many threads on this particular issue. its a fairly commonplace with our loved ones they can get issues with bm and urinary tract issues so quickly. I have dealt with this for about 10yrss now, and getting him on a DAILY regime of say miralax or such to help SOFTEN stools up in the upper GI is essential. its pretty late to try to tackle once its in the lower colon. I know I have had 10days over the years and it takes an army of meds to get them going. try a mineral enema which has oil and lubricates really good vs just the water enema type. if they are plugged up further up then the best way is via mouth. give miralax daily to soften and move the foods in tract and then ducolax suppositories or what your dr says rectally to get him going too. the urine issues 'dark brown' would concern me more. that's not normal and hes probably got something going on with the urinary tract. please get him to the dr asap and let him know all the symptoms. if they don't go in 24hrs after all the above they may need a physical intervention. once hes going again you need some sort of softener to keep him regular. and lots of fiber in the diet. hope this helps.

In the hystersister site I go to it amazes me the remedies women come up with to get our bowels back working. Besides stool softeners, water/fluids, fiber, miralax, milk of magnesium, warm prune juice or it with orange juice. So once you get him moving and the urine problem solved, might try different ones. I guess warm prune and orange juice actually taste pretty good. As for lack of urine - could be kidney or bladder infection, could be as mentioned his full colon might be blocking the urine. I vote for medical intervention.
