I am sitting in a room in the ER with Sid waiting for a room to be ready. Have been here almost 3 hours. I don't want to leave him alone, but I'm going to have to go home sometime. He knows he's in the hospital, but when he wakes up tomorrow morning, I know he is going to be confused.

Elevated heart rate that they are trying to stabilize.

Dear Joan, prayers for both Sid and you. I know you know this, but you are strong and a warrior (albeit a tired one). I am
in the northeast but if I can call anyone or do anything you have my email. If I can do it I will.

I'll bet your soothing words and quiet songs will be better than any medicine. Remember, your the speech therapist and You can do this. I know it's not speech therapy but the principles are similar.

My heart and prayers are with you both.

for those not on Facebook, Joan posted this 6 minutes ago:

Joan Stairman Gershman It is 5 PM, and the cardiologist still hasn't seen him today. I left the hospital an hour ago. He's about the same - heart rate better, but still not where it should be. He's on IV meds for it. He has no idea where he is, which is frightening to him.But the nurses are keeping a close eye on him. Will update again when I know more. Thanks everyone for your good wishes.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. A special thank you to Charlotte for posting my Facebook message.

Nothing new to report because the cardiologist apparently didn't think it was important to answer my messages and call me to tell me what is going on with my husband. I will be at the hospital in the morning making my displeasure known.

Joan, I hope Sid is soon well enough to return to the NH and you can get back to your "normal" ALZ spouse routine. It is never easy. Good luck in getting satisfactory cooperation from the medical staff. Take good care of yourself and let the paid medical staff take care of Sid. I know that is easier said than done. Will have you in my thoughts and prayers.

posted by Joan 2 hours ago:

FINALLY heard from the cardiologist this morning. He said that they now have everything under control with medication, so Sid will be released from the hospital and sent back to the NH today. I sure hope he recognizes it, because right now he is completely confused about where he is, where he came from, and where he is going. We're probably in for another period of adjustment. Thanks to everyone for your caring and concern.

Doctor put a hold on his release. I have no idea why, and no one seems to care that I want to know. I will update again when I actually know something.

I thank all of you so much for your kind words. I posted somewhere else here (sorry, not thinking straight) the latest. Sid was accepted into Hospice this afternoon. Florida's hospice guidelines are now very strict, so that pretty much says it all. It is very important to me that he is calm and comfortable, and they will provide that.

Joan, so very, very sorry for what you are going through, prayers and comfort for you and Sid.

Joan--I was sort of dazed when the ER doc suggested inpatient hospice for Steve as an alternative. As you said, "that pretty much says it all". But as you know, if it is the end, that's the best way to go and the most humane, which I hope will be a comfort to you after this long, hard journey.
