It's been a tough couple of days but all things considered I am doing really well. I hope to be released from the hospital tomorrow. Hoping more that I will be able to move well enough to go see Lynn on Sunday. There are no words to aptly describe how much it hurts me having to be away from him.

Luckily I have made some close friends over the years at the facility and they are "keeping guard over Lynn until I return". How sweet they are :)

I will try to catch up on the posts once I am settled at home and more rested.

Be sure to take care of yourself and watch out for infection. After I had my appendectamy I had a bad infection that kept me home for a week. So pay attention to how you are feeling and don't ignore any signs of sickness.

    Nikki,

I am so glad to hear from you. I saw a post on FB of your sister wishing you well after surgery, but couldn't find another thing about it, so I have been worried.

    Take care of yourself.

Nikki, glad to know you're doing well after your "unplanned" surgery. Do take care of yourself and don't push your recovery.

Thank you all so much!! I just had to get on to share how my visit with Lynn went today. I just copy and pasted from my recent FB post...

Just an update.... I had an appendectomy on Friday and am doing well all things considered. I was able to go see Lynn today!! I miss him so much when I can't see him for just one day, I hadn't been able to see him for 3 days!! And truth be told, I worry so much that he might forget me with that much time passing between visits.

You can imagine my joy when he lit up when he saw me, said "I know yooooou..." smiling that smile that lights his eyes and my whole world. Lots and lots of kisses and even a hug.

He was telling Missy and I stories when I stepped out of the room to go get a washcloth to wash his face.... and I heard him tell Missy..." I love her so much!" and then.. "I'm lucky to have her"

Yeah, I cried...... Still tearing up just thinking about it.....
    We had a wonderful visit!♥

Nikki, so happy to hear that you are on the mend, and were able to visit Lynn again. You have had your plate full, but what stress you must have felt, with this emergency cropping up, and at the same time wondering and worrying about Lynn. It sounds like a wonderful reunion!!
For us, transferring was definitely the right move. The staff is caring and kind, not rushing, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We are new, so there is a lot of curiosity, and other residents are watching us closely. But it is friendly. I have introduced us as we meet others, and they say hi to Rene, or shake hands. Sometimes he just smiles or shakes hands, but that’s ok. There was a “Pub Night’ on Saturday, a small gathering of other residents, with live entertainment (accordion and singing) from a man who is quite sympathetic to the Home and the residents. He played many old favourites, big band, Engelberg, etc. etc. My husband responds well to music, and he was directing quite vigorously from his wheelchair (smile). Others who were attending understood, and the response was warm and kind. One lady who has her own difficulties (not dementia-type) waved goodnight to him when she was leaving, and others commented that he was having a good time.
He’s begun trying to use his legs to propel around the floor. The staff have been encouraging, but he told me that he is afraid he will get lost, or won’t know what to do. That will probably pass.
He sometimes gets sad that others can leave, and he has not choice but to stay (loss of freedom). But it passes. Overall, very happy about all of these new developments.
As others advised, please take care of your own health. We all care, and, as you can see, you have many great friends here.
Thank you for caring, and thanks to all.

Marg, so glad the transition is going well and your husband is adjusting well.

NIKKI!! I am so glad that you, and Lynn, are ok. Your story of his words about you are just beyond beautiful. He is so lucky to have you and vice versa.

I will be seeing "Mr.Turtle" in the warm thermal ponds soon. I always think of you and Abby when I see him. I love to tell him about our lives, and then imagine he is giving me a telepathic wisdom of the ages conversation. It will be nice to tell him of you again, and I will let you know what he says.

    Get better quickly dear friend.
