    To my website members,

It has become necessary for me to request assistance from the Alzheimer Spouse members to help keep this website going. During the past 7 years, I have worked my hardest and done my best to bring you the best support and information my time and energy would allow. However, the expense of running the site continues to increase – taxes, hosting fees, website maintenance, software updates, hardware updates - are not possible for me to afford on my own, especially since most of my monthly income now goes to pay the nursing home. If you have been helped by this website in any way – emotional support, friendship, information – please consider making a donation to help me keep the website up and running for everyone who needs it. My sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of you who have contributed over the years. I hope some of our newer members will follow your example.

You may contribute in two ways:

    Send checks to:
    The Alzheimer Spouse LLC
    Joan Gershman
    PO Box 880303
    Port St. Lucie, FL 34988

    Log onto and contribute to

    Thank you.

"If you have been helped by this website in any way – emotional support, friendship, information –"

I have been helped in all these ways. A donation is coming your way this afternoon. It comes with much gratitude to you.
As far as I can tell, in order for money to be sent via PayPal, there needs to be an email address or a phone number to enter.

Don't know where my head is. I meant to write PayPal - I will change it now. Thank you.

    Joan and Emily,

I joined PayPal and after registering, setting password, security questions, etc. it would not accept It also kept asking if I was sending money to a family member or friend OR paying for goods or services. I logged out of it out of frustration and just saw the last two messages here.

Which I should select from those two options? Does PayPal have a donation option?

It's probably best to just send a check. I just saw that PayPal is now taking a piece of every amount of money sent for their own "fees". Thank you so much for your help.

I could not have survived this disease without the work you have done to create and keep this wonderful website going. Check on its way tomorrow. You don't need to acknowledge or anything. I hope you are doing well.
This site keeps me sane - or at least semi-sane. While I rarely post, I'm here and learning. I'm sure many others are doing the same. A post by Jan K last week, when she mentioned a quote Marche had used from a Don McLean song, truly forced me to realize I absolutely had to hire home health. They start next week!

“When the gates are all down
    and the signals are flashing
And the whistle is screaming in vain,
And you stay on the tracks, ignoring the facts
Well then, you can’t blame the wreck on the train.”

The check will be in the mail tomorrow! Thank you for all you do for us!
Just wrote the check and it will be in the mail tomorrow. I couldn't survive this disease without it.

Will not even have attempted to use Paypay anyway (joining Facebook was my challenge for the day (smile)). At this point not much new is penetrating! Will send a cheque tomorrow, Joan. Thank you for this website, and the wonderful support and advice received. Margaret
This site has been invaluable to me. A day doesn't go by. That I don't check and read all new posts.

I will gratefully send a check.

We need you and this site.

Can't thank you enough for this wonderful site. Sorry I haven't thought to send anything for quite
some time. I, too, will contribute.

    Thanks again.

Thank you for all the great work you do and I'll echo the other members when I say what a life line this has been for me. Also thank you for the reminder to send in my annual contribution.

Cheque will be in the mail today. Also you don't need to let me know you got the cheque.

I'll send something extra in addition to the annual amount. It costs money to run this and that is a fact of life. My personal opinion is that those that have nothing extra shouldn't feel bad and that those of us who do and value this site should support it.
My check is written and ready for mailing, Joan. Your site was of inestimable help to me in 2008 and 2009 when I was needing advice and emotional support, and I still read the posts every day to keep up with my cyber friends.
I wrote out a check and will mail it this afternoon. Thank you for all you do for us.

Thanks to all of you. I must mention that I should have emphasized what Wolf has said. Over the years, I have been urged by business people to charge a membership fee, but I absolutely refused, because there are too many people who need the help this website offers who cannot afford to spend any extra money. I don't feel they should be denied membership because they do not have the money to spend on it. I have been on both sides of the fence, so I completely understand.

Again, thank you to those of you who are able to help so everyone can benefit.

Tested the PayPal method. Works just fine. This is assuming you have a PayPal account already. If not, it will be a hassle.

Just make sure to use, and select the "friends and family" option.

Something for visitors to this site to consider ... I send Joan a check each year on my wife's birthday, her age times $1. Clare will be 68 next month, so I'll be sending Joan a check for $68. It's not a whole lot, but it's something ... and as an annual gift it's a way of thanking Joan each year for hosting this site, still the best source of information for Alzheimer's spouses anywhere. So ... just a thought for those of you able to make a small annual donation.
Thank you Joan for all the help you have provided the many people here on your Website. I just sent you a Paypal donation, and like Emily said, it worked fine. For your information, if your Paypal account is set up to withdrawal money from your checking account, they do not keep any of the money for services. Mine is set up that way so you are getting the full donation I just sent. I don't like writing checks and Paypal is my friend.

Another suggestion that I just used myself, is, if you are a member, now is the time to jot down your check in information wherever you keep your passwords. Since I don't access this site as often as I used to I find myself "not signed in" frequently, and it is a hassle to go through the posts and find one where I had written, to find my name. This happened after my husband passed away and I added his date of death.
    I echo everyone's words.
I would not be surviving without this site and all of you!
I applaud your ideas Wolf and Joan on supporting people who cannot afford a bit extra.
It so touches my heart Joan that you do not charge an annual membership fee. Thank you!
I really like your idea acvann. I will mail a cheque today for $72.00.
    Dear Joan.....
It's kind of sad that along with everything else you do, you have to go to the trouble to
remind my that it costs money to keep this site open. It was such a blessing for me while
I was on the journey. And now that the journey is over, I can't seem to stay away from it.

just saw this! putting my check into the mail tomorrow.
    Hi Joan,
I will try PayPal and failing that send a cheque(Canadian spelling). I, too, have been helped by this website and all the people who have joined it. I have also made lifelong friends. I think I will send a cheque on the date of Gord's passing in the future.

Hi Joan, I think it went. I hope!!!!!!!

Now that Thanksgiving in Canada has come and gone and the same holiday in the U.S. is just six weeks away, some of us might consider a Thanksgiving gift to this website. I would like to point out that in addition to its top-quality content, this site is very user-friendly. The kind of technical services that make this site so easy to use do not come cheap. So I'll be sending in my check. Thank you, Joan!
I'm glad myrtle brought this to the top. I will be sending a contribution tomorrow in memory of my DH, Ron. Joan, no need to acknowledge. The cleared check will let me know you received it.
Ditto, in memory of my DH, Larry.

Joan, I'll try to get a check in the mail tomorrow. This is a truly worthy site. Each time I read a comment, it helps me realize that I am not alone nor going crazy.

My DH will be 88 on December 3rd. Will be sending a cheque. Don't know how I would have survived without all this website. Although I don't contribute much (feel that I don't have much to contribute compared with others), I have learned so much. Thank you, and thank you, all!

It occurs to me that Joan probably needs an infusion of cash in order to maintain this website.

I already posted on the site about the DC conference but I think that supporting the maintenance of this site is also vital. I know that many people are not able to contribute, but I suggest that if you are able to do so, this would be a good time.

Thanks myrtle. Good reminder to all of us.
Joan …. the check's in the mail. :)
I'm a new member to this wonderful site. Send $50.00 via Paypal today.
I donated via Pay Pal today in honor of my DH. His name was Doug.
I'm Looking forward to the new website design. The check is written and will be in the mail tomorrow.
For others contributing, please include your screen name in your note or on the check. It helps Joan know who you are.
My check went out today. Sorry it was a couple of days later than I said...I've been distracted with training the new puppy. My goodness, remind me to get a dog in the summer the next time...when it's not so cold out for all the trips outside so he can "go." Great fun, but boy, do they ever keep you busy.

Hi Joan, I'd like to send you a contribution for the website but I'm not sure where to send it. I know you moved to a new condo after Sid died but I'm not sure whether the website's mailing address changed. Will you please post the correct address here? Thanks.

Thank you so much Myrtle. The address for the website is the same:

    The Alzheimer Spouse LLC
    Joan Gershman
    PO Box 880303
    Port St. Lucie, FL 34988

However, due to a hack on my business account, which is causing me major headaches, I have to ask that you make the check out to me - Joan Gershman, rather than The Alzheimer Spouse LLC, because I am in the process of changing that entire account.

    Thank you for your support.

where should we ask question about the web site or make recomendations for the web site.
    • CommentTimeOct 16th 2017
What question do you have about the website?

Joan has not really been active since her husband died. Between the grief and serious medical issues she has not been able to be with us. She does have someone that monitors the site but we have mostly been going it on our with the 'old timers' helping the newer ones.

Rodstar43, The owner of this site is Joan Gershman. The email address I have for her is, but I don't know if that is still current.

As Charlotte said, there may be other members of the site who can answer some of your questions.
Hi-I'm oldtimer-one of the original members of the crew and a proud member of the Dirty Dozen as we were called long ago. We were almost the only ones posting and we went on strike trying to encourage others to be more active. When I fractured my knee I became known as the cracked egg of the Dirty Dozen. We learned so much from each other as we laughed and cried together. Joan and I are planning to get together for lunch soon.Sometimes when we are in the "after" going back is like picking on a scab and not letting the wound heal.

when that happens it is either because you took too long and was timed out, or your post was too long. Often hitting the back button will take you back to your post. Many here when doing a long post will type it in Word or some other program then copy and paste here.
