it does improve over time and like many of the symptoms with AD it depends on the specific person. medicine adjust is crucial. especially if you are experiencing out of the norm periods. even mine in late end stages has times at sunset that hes more active but cant act out as hes bedridden. he claps a lot during those times and full moons. which gives me the idea its still sundowning of sorts. Ativan is the drug for us. please ask your dr if you need some help. it can get overwhelming.

My husband has FTD, is 63 and in early stage 7. He still sun downs, although not every evening/night but at least 4-5 times a week. And of course during full moons. Ativan and Klonopin works for us....mostly. It's gotten better probably due to meds and disease progression but we still experience it.

A third vote for Ativan. My husband also had FTD. For him, the most intense sundowning which included a lot of physical activity and threatening behavior did eventually quiet. It was pretty linear, once it lessened it was replaced by fatigue and almost constant sleep. It never really peaked again.

My wife with FTD tends to sundown in the afternoon. Then she is usually full of crazy talk, know no other way to put it. She gets very agitated but might calm down after dinner (might be the drugs helping).
  1.
Another vote for Ativan (Lorazepam) experiment with time of admiration and beware daylight savings time. I found a 1 mg dose around 2:30 really had a dramatic effect.
