Just to change the subject from time to time, I know all too well how buried caregivers get. But the world continues to move on. I know some of you will enjoy these TV shows when they air. Bettyhere ---------------
Have any of you seen the promo for 'Cosmos' coming to TV in March? This will be an updated version of the original 'Cosmos' that aired about 25 years ago featuring Carl Sagan. Sagan was my nephew's mentor at Cornell and it was my nephew, Steven Soter, who wrote much of it then. This time my nephew is again writing it with Sagan's widow, Ann. The narrator will be Dr. Tyson of NY's Hayden Planetarium, and my nephew's colleague.
You can look up Steven Soter on the Internet. He’s a senior citizen today, but I babysat him all thru my teen-aged years. I'd find him outside in the dark and ask, "Steven, what are you doing out there?" He'd answer, "I'm observing the planets." He was about 6 or 7, his fascination with the universe never left him.
THEN: If you can take any more showbiz, I just came from my son's house down the block where HGTV is filming my grandson and his lady who are building a Tiny House there and plan to tour the US with it. Their segment will air on an HGTV series about changing life styles—I think in April. Today they are filming the roof installation. You can look up ‘Tiny Houses’ to learn about them. This is my g’son’s blog: http://tinyhousegiantjourney.com/
Well, my comment disappeared. Betty, you must be very proud of Steven! I will be sure to watch for the new 'Cosmos'. Interesting about HGTV and the 'Tiny Houses'. They did a segment on my son at his home where he built a 'condo' under his staircase for his Pom, Petey - chandeliers, the works. Then A&E had him on their program, "Sell This House".
Vickie - I'd like to see that condo -- chandeliers! And, yes, yhouniey, I thought the same thing, Charlotte will tell you that touring is not all that new but it's been fun watching them build the thing. They bought the wood from an old barn and used it for the outside. It's about 10 x 18 with a sleeping loft so it's rather tall. I think they have a couple more months to finish it--nothing's really done on the inside yet, but the windows and skylights are in, so hopefully by the Spring they'll take off for one of the National Parks.
I am very proud of Steven and all that he's done. Unfortunately his mother, my sister, had vascular dementia and died last month at 92. It's not AD, but it's incredibly difficult as some of you know. It came on slowly over many years, 15 or more, and she knew she was losing it. Her other son who lives nearby has been a saint, but he's also elderly now and energy and money have their limits, but he wanted to keep her in her home and he did. My other sister died at 90, sharp as a tack, still playing poker and winning until a month or so before she died. So far, fingers crossed, I am more like her--except I don't play poker!
