Now that we have experienced what it is like to be a caregiver 24/7 for years.....if something happened to you....dementia, stroke, hearth disease, etc....that require you needing care would you have your family look after you or would you tell them to put you into LTC so they don't have to experience what we have gone through?
I told my daughter to place me into LTC....I wouldn't want her or anyone else to go through what I went through. Life is too short. I don't want her to grow to resent me and losing years of her life.
Now that hubby is in LTC and I'm healing from what we have been through, I'm finally getting to enjoy being a wife again and having a life again.
I have told them to place me. I have two daughters and they are just starting their lives. I do not want them to go through what I am going through. They are very helpful with DH. I wouldn't want it for them 24/7.
Amber, my DH has been in the Veterans Home almost 15 months. He is getting excellent care there. I am eligible to go there if I need care. I told my children that if I ever need care to RUN, not walk, me to the Home. They know I am serious. They go & visit him & see how good he is being taken care of, so I know that they wouldn't hesitate to place me there. I agree with you I don't want anyone to go through what I went through when he was home. Nikki kept telling me that once my DH was placed I'd find the "love" for my DH that I thought was gone forever, & she was right.
I've told my kids that if there is enough money in my bank account, hire care aides to come into the house. There is room for one to live-in if it comes to that. If that doesn't work, I've given them the names of 3 care facilities that I think deliver the best care.
