Our neighborhood collects gifts to give the Senior Center and they distribute them to places unknown. I'm at a loss as to what an elderly person might be a happy gift for an unkinown senior. Any ideas? They are probably in the local NH.
    Thanx, mother

I've always liked receiving a package of special notepaper and envelopes. It makes writing those special letters a pleasure.

Rosemary....I think at 92 yrs, my opinion should count as from a senior. I like candy,
and all my friends know it. On my last birthday, I received six one pound boxes of
chocolates and three two pound boxes.... Lucky me........

My husband's aunt is in a nursing home, and they have a Christmas party where they ask each family to bring a gift for their family member and an additional gift. I am bringing a crocheted shawl as the second gift.

Hmmmm, chocolate and Board Games are sounding like sure things. We have a little local gift shop close to our house with all kinds of locally made goodies. I think I'll purchase a box of assorted truffles - maybe two boxes. Isn't that the way everybody shops, 1 for you and 1 for me???

Thanks everyone, these are all very good ideas.

May I also suggest that you check the holiday guide on the home page - it's under Breaking News. One section of the guide gives gift ideas for Alzheimer patients in nursing homes.

mother if I may make a suggestion? some NH residents aren't allowed sugar due to disease, ie diebetics or such. maybe a box of sugar candy and one that's sugar free? that way the nurses can supervise so that all the residents can have some. I noticed in respite that the nurses had trays of cakes cookies etc and had to monitor who got what just in case.
