My DH can't drive anymore but on occasion he is asked for a photo ID. The drivers licence is the card everyone asks for and even though he carries his expired one, sometimes it is not accepted because of being expired. In Ontario we are not allowed to use our health cards as ID. Does anyone have any suggestions as to something simple that can be used?
Ring, in the US the motor vehicle dept offers a state id for those who can no longer drive. Perhaps Ontario has a similar program/id system? Maybe your local police might have a suggestion?
ring, I googled photo card in Ontario and your government offers the Ontario Photo Card for non-drivers. see www.ontario.ca/government/Ontario-photo-card. Check the website to see what documents you need to bring and where you can obtain one for your husband.
My DH's driver's license expires in December. He no longer drives, no longer goes to stores or buys anything and I have POA for everything concerning him. Would he still need an ID card for anything?
I think it prudent to get a state ID even if they don't drive while you can get it. they have to appear and take a photo and sign or you need to take poa and sign for them at the DMV. most places do require a form of ID for just about anything. I would get it. just in case for the future.
My DH's drivers license expired this year. He is in the Veterans Home, so I don't think he will need any ID.......BUT he does have a passport that is valid until 2019, so that is what I will use for him if he ever needs an ID for anything.
Dazed, I agree with divvi...get a photo ID while you can. You just never know when one will be required. When you get a photo ID they will ask you for his license even if it's expired.
pretty sure you have to have a current photo ID and in person. you can call ahead and schedule a specific time and person to see so you don't have to wait in line. do this it sure saves stress and anxiety over lines. tell them hes disabled and needs in quickly. It worked well when we got my DH 's id photo.
