Hubby woke up this morning very dizzy. He fell a couple of times before I could get to him...I was in the shower. He hit his head and got a good cut above his L temple. I was able to help/drag/carry him downstairs to the couch. There he started to feel sick and vomited several times. I helped him to the bathroom....morning pee. Then back to the couch. When he started vomiting again I thought there is no way I'll be able to put him in the car and take him to emerg so called the ambulance.

Now hats off the volunteer first responders here. I figured 1 hour before I would see any help but the first responders were here in 7 minutes!!! Ambulance 45 minutes later.

Off to the hospital where he has been admitted, his is very dizzy and can't stand or walk so they are going to keep him and because he is one week from placement in LTC he probably won't come back home. That's my Sunday.

Sounds like concussion but hopefully they will find the cause soon. trying to remember other problems that have similar symptoms and think UTI is another.

Hope the night in the hospital goes well for both of you.

Vertigo, that sounds like all the symptoms, if it is, they have meclazine for it. My hb takes one a day now, he has taken as many as five. Isn't bothered as much with it now. Take care of yourself too. I just finished a stint with my dh in hospital. Got lots of crocheting done.

Arms around you. I am so sorry that he has a head injury but it sounds like everything lined up just right. I hope that you did not hurt yourself on the stairs. I am amazed that caregivers deal with stairs daily. I have a hard enough time in a one story ranch.

This is frightening...falling was one of my worries for my DH and that he would dislodge his hip replacements...he fell a couple of times, mostly lowered himself down when he was off balance so he never got hurt.
I hope your husband's injury is not too serious but now that he is a fall risk, if he is placed it will probably be the safest thing for both of you. I have some injuries from helping mine up though he didn't get hurt..now I am in PT.
Best of luck to you and hugs along the way.

So talked to the nurse yesterday....the plan is he will stay in acute care until Monday then get transferred over to LTC facility for his six week respite and hopefully in that time a bed will open up. If no bed is available then they will either leave him there as a "respite bed blocker" or transfer him back over to the acute care ward where he will wait until a bed becomes available. So he won't be coming home.

This part of the journey is over and onto the next part, I'm glad and sad....he just couldn't come back he is so shaky and off balance there is no way I could look after him on my own plus lots of stairs here.

Also I keep getting phone calls from him telling me that the doctor has released him and I'm to come and get him! Poor guy.

The good thing is I don't have to go through what some of you have gone/going through telling them and then trying to get them to go into care.
