I've already determined that my wife needs to be moved to a care facility. I have a partial list of some but I'd be interested in input from anyone in this AD spouse community that lives in the East bay (northern California) knows someone that does. Also, do they any know of any particular pros or cons to their respective care facilities they have knowledge of, even 2nd hand.

    Watch7,
Check out the topic "questions to ask when seeking out ALF" I asked this question and received some very helpful answers.
    Wishing you the best,

You might want to try the social worker at the hospital for some recommendations, or call your local Alz. Assoc. chapter. Typically they do not make recommendations but provide a list. Another resource might be hiring a Geriatric Care Manager. They can provide you with a list of memory care facilities and often have very good first hand knowledge of the facilities because of their clients needs. They can be costly - over $100.00/hour but it might be worth it for a one-time recommendation/consultation.

Watchful 7 you might want to check out Medicare.gov. Search Nursing Home Compare. You can put in your zip code and it will list all NH's in your area that accept medicare and or medicaid. Most accept private pay and medicaid. It will also give you the star ratings of each. You might also check your state Health Dept for adult services. Some states list all facilities and the violations and penalties assessed for each. I do think personal knowledge is best but there are pros and cons at all. Even after you choose a facility it does not have to be permanent if you, the caregiver, are not satisfied with care given to your loved one. I hope you can get through this phase of caregiver stress with minimal damage to you.

I don't know if this matters to you or not but if you use A Place for Mom, be aware that although the service is free for you, the facilities they list/recommend pay them a fee.
