You'll never believe this..Tonight we found a baby wild rabbit in our house. My husband with Parkenism/Dementia has
been telling me there "is a varmit in the house". I told him he had been dreaming. This morning he said topsy (our cat) and that varmit were chasing each other past his chair.... I said, now you know that couldn't have happened, you dreamed it. .We have no idea how but somehow that baby rabbit got in our house yesterday and I didn't see it until this evening. Freaked me out..let me tell you. I called my grandson to come over and catch it. Now it is outside and my heart is still pounding. (Do I have to believe EVERYTHING husband tells me now?????) The only way we can figure was it somehow came in the cat door from the garage to the house. We are thankful it wasn't a skunk...

Did Kitty hurt Bunny? Your DH was probably really frustrated with you telling him he'd dreamed it. LOL

I'm sorry. I must be really be tired tonight, but Imohr, your story cracked me up. We get so used to their delusions and hallucinations that when one is really true, especially one about a "varmit in the house", it really is funny.

Around here, we have lizards and frogs. The lizards are cute (They're only 3-5 inches long), but the FROGS, that's another story. Ugh! Every time one gets in the house, I run screaming.

We had a cat that brought all of her 'kills' into the house if the door was open. He left them on the porch and scratched at the screen when it was closed. Great cat! Pure black short hair. Yellow eyes. A perfect halloween cat. He was a very romantic cat and visited all the lady cats in the neighborhood. That was years ago. He was always getting into fights and I thought maybe he'd be better off if we had him neutered. My four sons wanted to know what that was and when I gently explained it, they were horrified. Tommy never did have the operation and he lived to be 9 years old and he died a happy guy.

PS==Don't remember him ever bringing in any snakes. If he had, he might not have lived to be 9 years old. Finding a shoe box full of snakes in our youngest son's room was bad enough. Ugh!

Imohr's story reminds me of an incident at our local hospital a few years ago. A psychiatric patient called the nurse to say there was a mouse under her bed. Since she had been hallucinating the nurse tried to convince her there was no mouse, but she insisted. So the nurse looked under the bed, and saw two beady eyes looking back at her. It wasn't a mouse, but a gerbil that had escaped from the pediatric ward down the hall.

About 15 years ago a baby racoon got into our FIREPLACE and we could see the little eyes behind our glass door which covered the fireplace...we called animal control & they said there was nothing they could do...perhaps it would crawl back up the fireplace, which was obviously how it got in there in the first place. They also suggested covering the fireplace with a blanket, since it was daylight & it needed to be dark for them. We did that, and PRAYED, and sure enough, the "mother" came right down the chimney & got the baby & took it right back up! Whew! We were VERY thankful!!

Perhaps the cat brought it in. I had a cat that "caught" baby rabbits and brought them home.

    Imohr,
I had the opposite thing happen. (Your story did make me laugh, and Marsh's too.) I told my husband I heard a strange noise when I opened a drawer to the chest in the guest room. He told me I was imagining things. I insisted that there could be nothing wrong with the chest. I went back, opened the drawer again, heard the same strange sound. I insisted that he come into the room & hear for himself. He still didn't get it. Said it was my imagination. He pulled the chest out to prove it to me, and out burst a squirrel! It must have fallen into the chimney. I don't know who was the most scared, me or the squirrel. It bounce off the bed onto the walls. Soot on its feet, took a while to clean all that up. Guess the point is, if anyone suspects a "varmint" check it out.

bluedaze, the furry and scaly varmints don't bother me so much, but having to take care of spiders myself now, THAT'S really upsetting. I keep trying to tell myself I'm a grown-up, and much bigger than the spiders, but it's not helping at all.

Marsh, loved your story! Brought back one of my favorite childhood memories.

When I was a young tyke, my mother's mother used to come visit. (Not the happiest times in the world, man, was she a battle-ax!) We had a split-level house. She slept on a bed in the playroom downstairs, which was half-way underground, with a door that led out to a stairwell. We had a hamster, by the name of Angel, a very small and shy creature, normally quite well-behaved, who we kept down there. Somehow, for the first and only time in his life, he escaped from his cage, and somehow climbed onto her bed. She woke up in the dark to feel this little furry creature in bed with her and -- naturally!!! -- leaped out of bed screaming at the top of her lungs.

It had rained really hard, and a bunch of nightcrawlers had come in under the stairwell door...

    She left the next day.

Are you sure your dad didn't let the hamster out? <grin>

He liked the hamster far too much to endanger its little life that way. (But I'm very sure he liked the results!)

natsmom- Many years ago on a hot summer night we left the door to our bathroom opened (it led to a patio with a hot tub). A skunk came in and fell into our sunken tub. They also don't like light - so carefully putting a 2x4 in to the tub and turning on the light took care of the problem odor free. Believe me, the dog and I went in to the living room until that problem was solved!
