We the spouses who everybody else agrees have to face a very tough thing nobody wants to go though need these examples in our faces that while some people are self absorbed and some are downright mean - there are people around us who will do extraordinary things for others.
At times I've needed anchors and actually gone out and searched for them. I notice them and stop to take them in. I watched a young man dive into a raging river to rescue a dog caught in the flooding and everyone who watched felt the bravery of that young man and everyone's heart wrenched when he caught hold of him and pulled them both back out. He risked himself to save a dog he didn't know because love is all around us even when our own hearts are breaking.
I've been listening to Nat King Cole: Smile though your heart is aching, Smile even though it's breaking. . . I can't stop listening to it, and it makes me cry every time.
