I was wondering if a GPS chip would work for our loved ones in case they got lost, what do you think?

Ann, I often think I'd like the same type of chip in dh as they put in dogs but I doubt that would be legal. Besides, who would know he's chipped? They'd have to take him to a vet.

Seriously, I wish we had something like that available particularly for those that a prone to wander or who are "runners". Some how I feel that would violate his privacy...;)

There are GPS bracelets and ones you can put in shoes. It has to be something that they cannot take off on their own.

They would probably also need to NOT know that they have it because that might give them reason to want to take it off.

We have a gps thru the local sheriff's program "project lifesaver", unfortunately he is always removing the gps band (heavy duty plastic). No matter where we put the gps he finds it and removes it. I have not bought the sneakers with the gps built in because quite frankly they are very expensive.

Funny story: We have had medic alert bracelets for several years. Had his on his right hand, so he couldn't take it off with his left. He fell and injured his right hand/arm, and I had to remove it to put on his left arm. I couldn't get it off! Called the company, they said I was doing it correctly, but it would not come off! A few minutes later I was going to try again - Guess what??? he had taken it off! With his left hand! Go figure.

My Paul has had his PLS band since we first found out he has this-when we first put it on,he wanted to know why---I told him if he ever got lost and did not know where I was-this would help them fine ME----- he tells everyone it is so I never get lost!!! never has tried to remove it.

Claude had health issues other than alzheimers. We got him a "Medic Alert" bracelet (chain link type like the ID bracelets we had in school) and put it on his right wrist. He was right handed so he couldn't get it off.

My husband is Houdini...he can get anything off, doesn't matter what hand, leg, type of band, etc.

I have never seen such an ability to be creative when they want. mine took a hinged door off partially with a dull dinner knife.
they will work quietly and diligently to get what they want. Vickie I couldn't get that dang metal clip open off the Alzheimer safe return bracelet - it was a good one mine couldn't get it off but pulled on it incessantly. bak that funny so you don't get lost!
Houdini is a good comparision lfl!
