My husband always falls asleep around 8:00 at night, however, he will not go to bed. He sleeps in the recliner, which would be no problem (even though it seems like a slap in the face everytime I look over there) however, he is so confused when I wake him to come to bed. It took about 20 minutes last night to get him to lie down in the bed. I wish he would just go to bed at 8:00.

I've got no suggestions. Sometimes if my husband falls asleep in the recliner he is very disoriented when I wake him up and suggest he go to bed. I just leave him alone and frequently he will change his mind and go on his own.

You might consider the following. When my husband had his accident he had 6 broken ribs. He slept in a recliner for many weeks until the ribs healed enough for him to try sleeping in bed. If he won't move to the bed, just cover him over and let him sleep. It isn't wonderful, but...

We do what we have to do.

Kadee...my husband spent years not sleeping in bed....refused to lie down, fought it at every turn and when in the hospital had to be in four point restraints. He did not sleep in a bed until he couldn't walk....be grateful he sleeps anywhere....LOL!

I was afraid if I left him in the recliner he would freak out. Sometimes he wakes up when I get ready to go to bed, however, he is still confused.
Sandi, you are right....I am grateful he sleeps.

Sounds familiar. Sometimes my husband goes in the bed w/no problem. Sometimes he falls asleep in the living room and is usually cooperative when I wake him. He will always go to bed if I go w/him. I only do this as a last resort because I cherish my "me" time.

You ever try sleeping in a recliner? I've had to a time or two when the house is full. I jump at the chance, it is SO comfortable.

    Sorry briegull,

I don't agree. I broke my shoulder in April and had to sleep in a recliner for several weeks, because I couldn't lie down. It hurt too much. I was so ready to get back in my bed!

I decided that I should make the bed for sleeping/napping and the recliner for being up. That is a part of my trying to get some sort of routine going. Am I wrong?

Frand...there is no right and wrong, it is whatever works....! And, as we all know, what works today may not work tomorrow. Just try to do whatever works best for both of you. I always tell people...there are no rules in this game.
