We are now winding down the last few days of June...in fact, perish the thought, today the days start to get shorter though we won't notice it for awhile. That all said, we need to plan our FOURTH OF JULY PICNIC!

I have some Hot Dogs left and some buns and I have a new dessert too...cookies made with ricotta cheese!!!oh so good...dangerous though! I will bring my killer brownies for all us chocolate junkies..

Now we need to select a beach, who has a volley ball net and balls? We need some buckets and spades for our sand castle contest too. Sun Screen is a must. So we don't have much time to get our plans set....

Who has sparklers? We need poppers to so we can make lots of noise. So much to do...any one want to head to the beach?

I know most of you will be thinking of a beach somewhere in the "sunny" south. However, I would like to suggest "Sand Beach" (yes, it really does have sand) in Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Maine. Temperature here today have been in the mid 80's.

I'm good for that beach.....did you know I own property across the bay by Yarmouth Nova Scotia so after I party with my rum and coke (had a very trying week like most people here) I'll row back to my place.

I'll get my brother-in-law that is a lobster fisherman to get us some lobster to boil in a pot on the beach. Sea water is the best to cook them in. Eaten with hot melted butter poured over garlic and then dip the meat in. Please bring your own hammer and cracker and picks. Plus bibs....pretty messy.

The last time I ate lobster on a beach (in Prince Edward Island) we had cucumber salad and peach pie to go with it. So I will bring the peach pie (and the bocci balls to play before we eat!)

OH Goodie...I have never been to Maine...I have seen photos and it is so pretty there. I know what the Bocci Ball is, it will be fun to play that again. Peach Pie...oh that sounds good too. We will need some homemade Ice Cream to go with it...and the killer brownies...I wonder if Phranque will bring the Phrank Phurters again? It was Phun cooking them on a wire over the phire.

I can only eat lobster (rarely) if it served as a mysterious blob, cold - mixed with mayonnaise, in a lobster roll. I remember one time when we were first dating Lynn took me to DiMillo's (a floating restaurant in Maine) He thought he would surprise me and had called ahead to order our dinner. When the lobster came out and was placed in front of me, I took one look at the critter whose dead eyes were starring back at me and burst into tears as I fled from the restaurant.

Poor Lynn I will never forget his look of first shock and then humor. I was 18, though I did eat fish and occasionally chicken, I could not bring myself to eat an animal that could be a pet. That lobster was too close to a pet category for me. For years after he got the required paperwork for us to buy and release a lobster on my birthday. Sweet right ♥ Especially for a meat and potato man :)

bqd, we honeymooned in Prince Edward Island, we loved it there!

i would love to go to Maine. Also, I've always wanted to go (just one time) to the Capitol Fourth celebration in DC. Since this is all virtual, anyway could we fit that in too?

Janet, if we can't go in person I think you can watch it on TV!

We camped in Acadia park - beautiful views - love Maine. Also went to Prince Edward Island - watch out for the bridge toll! Most we ever, ever paid but PEI was well worth it. Don't care much for lobster or claims but would eat all the veggies from the "Boil". I have blueberries so can bring a cobbler.

flo39* - in defense of PEI I just want to say that the bridge toll is the same price as the ferry service (which for a long time was the only way to get there). By keeping the bridge toll the same price as the ferry, then the ferry service stays in service and more people are employed. And you can stay on PEI forever - you are only charged the toll when you want to leave the island! :-)

Nikki - I loved your story about the lobster at the restaurant - I could picture it all and it put a smile on my face.

I don't eat fish of any kind...it does not like me and I don't like hives...
I have been in DC for the fireworks...awesome..I was not down on the mall..it is a madhouse.

    Ok..now about our menu.....and supplies.......and some games..... : )
  6.
Mimi, you don't have to eat fish to enjoy Maine. We could grill up some awesome steaks for you.
  7.
bqd - We knew the ferry was the same when we started to leave PEI and isn't that a tricky way to collect :) but the bridge was much more interesting anyway. My dh was an engineer so that was of interest to him. Don't get me wrong we enjoyed the island so much and it was a beautiful day more than worth the toll. We enjoyed all of Nova Scotia for that matter. Hey! that's a good place for a picnic sometime.
  8.
I'll go for that..steak or burger or chicken..so now we all agree Maine it is for our 4th of July picnic...

now we need to figure out our grub, games, etc...

It appears that Wolf would like to move the picnic to Jellystone park; I'm okay with that, but we would have to watch out for the park ranger. LOL
    Maine is nice too...

Thank you bqd ♥ When we went to PEI there was no bridge. We always planned to go back and Lynn said he would rather take the ferry. Maybe it's the romantic in me, but I thought it enchanting that the only way to get there was by ferry. Now it is too late for us to go back... but if I ever make the trip again I wont be taking the bridge.

For some years it was our tradition to pick strawberries on the 4th. I always made a jello cake and decorated it as the flag with a cool whip topping, the fresh strawberries for the stripes and blueberries for the stars. I will bring a bunch of those :)

not a fish eater as well but grilled steaks would be terrific! and lots of potato salad and corn on the cob. and of course apple pie and homemade icecream.

My DH's pet name is Boo Boo Bear or B3 (B to the third power)..He has always been BooBoo.I am sure he would enjoy a picnic with Yogi, Wolfie and all the others at Jellystone. I bet he could even talk the Ranger out of giving us a ticket for parking violations.

Marsh, better wear a wet suit if you plan to go in the water at Acadia Park. It's cold!
