This last trip to hospital due to a reaction to Vicodin, the doctors took Sonny off seroquel and zoloft . I was worried he would become aggitated but he is doing really well.He is much more alert and recognizes people more(he is in NH now). His pain medications were also pulled and he does have a considerable amount of pain in his back. They are trying lidoderm patches to relieve it,but isn't working so well.Next he'll slowly go off the Aricept and then the Namenda. Guess we have to wait and see how that goes. He has been on them both for 6 yrs.He is late stage 6 going into stage 7

Vicodin gave my dh have hallucinations after his surgery - very freaky, and I don't think he will be having any other surgeries in the future. Actually, all the drugs associated with the surgery had really profound effects on him; fortunately they wore off in about 48 hours.

It seems in the late stages the medications that worked earlier often do no got and possibly harm. He he seems worse and you want to try to reintroduce medications I suggest the pain medications first.

yhouniey this is nice news. As my guy is in late stage 6 , I have thought about taking him off the Aricept. However the seroquel and antidepressant I would be too scared to at this point...he is doing well and on low doses.

    All the best to you.

Paulc, since Naproxen caused a bleeding ulcer, the Dr. is reluctant to give him anything that would complicate the stomach issue. He is getting Tylenol but that just dosen't help that much.Morphine has been nixed also. His degeneration of the back is so bad that they couldn't do a spinal tap when they suspected meningitis. He has had two serious back sugeries in the past.

My dh has always had a "sensitive" stomach to many meds. Found that Voltaren worked well for him as an anti-inflammatory and Ultram for pain. Narcotic-type pain meds throw him into orbit.

The change in Sonny since he went off the Seroquel and Zofolt is unbelievable. He can actually carry on a conversation and tell the aides what he wants, his pain has let up since he is getting up and around. The female residents make a point of calling him by name and smiling at him.our Dr. said I better keep an eye on him,the Nh has 85 beds, but only about 10 men.I do have over a months supply of 10mg Namenda and 10mg generic Aricept, will be glad to send them to someone who can use them.Email, myhart7@gamil.com
