I had to move from one province to the next to make sure I was able to get the correct dx for my DH and now I have all of that done I am getting so tired and I am so lonesome that I am considering moving back to where my son and daughter-in-law live so I can have a few people to take some care of me as well as help with DH. I get so lonesome that I just sit and cry. People don't want to make a new friend that has dementia in their life. There I will have people who care enough about us to take of me as well as him. I also have some friends there that will not walk away but will gladly take me shopping or out to coffee or lunch. They are looking forward to this move as much as I am. It will not happen until next spring but that is alright. DH thinks it it a good move even though he is sure it will be stressful for him. We are making plans to take him by air before the furniture is packed just as soon as the house sells.
Jazzy, since you don't have a history where you are now, I think in your case moving home is the right thing to do. Yes, the move will be stressful (for both of you) but isn't it stressful now? You will have family and friends close by for support, and you will be comfortable in an area with which you are familiar.
I have been walking around with my shoulder up around my neck for months but today after DH and I decided to go, well I finally felt the shoulders drop back into place and I feel so relieved. It is going to be a hectic coming year but I think it is best for me and in the long run for him. I checked with the access in that province and because we lived there before they will put him into their program as soon as we move. That is just what I had hoped for but wasn't sure how it worked. It's the same care programs as here. What a great stress buster. We have a house now but I think it is to much for me so an apartment is the way to go. We lost our tow little dogs just a few moths ago to illness and our son has two little Pugs that will love to have my DH spoil them and it will be good for him as well. Your right Nikki, a win/win.
Jazzy from which province to which? Are you out west? Once hubby goes into care I plan to get back to driving around BC again and hopefully get down and see Mary75 finally.
Amber, that sounds good! Look forward to seeing you. Coco will be in Vancouver from July 5-19. Wouldn't that be something if we could all get together for lunch?
We will be moving from Ontario to Alberta next summer. We still have to do some upgrades in this house and sell it. We hope to be in Edmonton by next June.
DH is running around trying to get all kinds of things done. He seems to have a huge spurt of energy since deciding to move. It has been years since he was this interested in anything. He is very physically tired but he says his mind is all full of all the things he wants to get done. I am not stopping him from any of this as I think he will slow down on his own soon. This just can't last and it is a long time until next June.
Jazzy, can you get him to write and keep a list of things he wants to do. This might help with him trying to do something as soon as it comes to mind. Even if he can't do these tasks, or not do them on his own, he might enjoy checking them off as they are accomplished. My wife LOVES checking off stuff.
Clearly he is very motivated by the move. Don't know how long it will last, but a sign it wants the move.
Mary - if hubby get into George Derby...that's where I would like him to go then I'll be down there more often. I'll also put the dates when Coco is coming and see what I can swing. It would be great!
Jazzy - Edmonton isn't too far from the Cariboo....to Jasper and then out and over I think would be the route I would take. Who knows.
Jazzy, I agree with paulc that your DH seems to be motivated into doing stuff by the move, so it must be something that he wants as well. Maybe I can make it down to Brockville before you leave for Edmonton.
Amber and Mary, I am tentatively planning on being in Kerrisdale, Vancouver , on the 18th of July, the day before I come home. I will also have lots of time on the 19th as I do not have to be at the airport until 2 pm.
Also I might, be in there the night of July 10th , Wednesday. Hard to plan exactly, I will call when I get there Mary. What a nice time of year to come up.
I sure hope this move brings you some help and company Jazzy.
Jazzy I would be willing to drive to Brockville some time (preferably a Tues. or Fri.) to meet with you and have a tea/lunch visit. I cannot imagine going through this without good friends close by. Perhaps I could be a stand-in until you get back out west. Email me if this is something you might like. Bqd, wanna come with me?
We considered Ottawa when we moved 7 years ago from the GTA. Picked Kitchener-Waterloo though.
I agree with everyone it sounds like a move back to familiar territory is probably right. Many of us need every bit of help we can get and being where we have connections already shouldn't be under rated.
Ring, if I can arrange someone to look after DH for me, I would be glad to - pick a date and I will see what I can come up with - I think we all might cry but sometimes a good cry with understanding friends is a good thing!
Jazzy and bqd June 18 is best for me but I can also go the 25 if that works best for you two. Let's do this! I will meet wherever is most convenient for you two. Tears or not - I think it will be really nice to meet and visit.
Thanks Wolf, that's very kind. I looked at your picture but can't decide which one is you. haha
How far is low? I can come into Ottawa if need be and I can have DH stay an extra hour at ADP that day so I will have to leave here at 09:00 and I will get there at 10:30 and will leave at 14:00. So we can meet at any time. The west end is best for me. kristy's on Rickmond Rd is nice and descent parking. Or South Keys area? Let me know where and what day.
Ring and Jazzy June 25 works best for me, but I can see what I can do for the 18th as well. If we decide on Ottawa, either West End or South Keys are good choices - I've lived in both so I am familiar with the areas.
Wolf, in your picture, which one is the shrinking one? :-)
Jazzy and bqd - Let's meet at Kristy's on Richmond Rd., Tuesday June 25th at 11 a.m. We can find a corner table and "hunker down". Does that work for you both?
Anybody else who lives within driving distance, feel free to join us.
bqd, both states exist; but, you'll have to take my word for it.
By the way, anyone coming this way from Ottawa please, please bring me a beavertail*. I haven't seen them out here.
* - That would be a Canadian pastry made of whole-wheat dough, shaped like a much-respected national symbol: a beaver's tail. Cooked in canola oil, they are served hot with a variety of toppings like cinnamon and sugar, chocolate hazelnut, maple butter, and apple cinnamon. In honor of President Barack Obama's visit to Ottawa, the Beavertails chain will make a special ObamaTail: the same base topped with cinnamon and sugar, a whipped cream "O," chocolate sauce, and some maple. For $3.75, they'll be available at the ByWard Market flagship store and for $4 at kiosks along the Rideau Canal Skateway.
Apple cinnamon. That bit came from an Ottawa Citizen article when President Obama came up (your loss mister C-).
The secret to the girlish figure encasing this burnt out stump is no cheese. That doesn't stop the jowls from growing and flapping in the breeze like laundry on the line but it's something.
