care facility has orders for compression stockings, can't find any discussions on them. I just can't see how we can accomplish this considering size and resistance factors. Any ideas would help. Thank you
My father wore those. He had vascular dementia and the compression stockings helped keep a bit more blood pressure up higher and give a small edge to his heart working. Athletes now wear them. Dad wore them for years and said they helped.
My husband wears velcro closed wraps like this: http://www.bandagesplus.com/prd/162/1259/Juxta-Lite-wSeparate-Medium-AFW.html The lymphedema specialist realized he wouldn't be able to manage compression stockings, and unlike the stockings, the wraps can be worn 24/7
Thank you Wolf and Pamsc, I will check into the site you suggested pamsc. It's really difficult to get any socks on at this point so your suggestion may just be our answer.
skates---This might be a choice too. Tube-a-gip , aka Medi-grip. Is woven elastic tubing. Use like socks. To treat my Lymphedema I wear 2 layers on my lower legs and feet. It comes in sizes. Not difficult to put on. In conjunction with that I also have to pump my legs 3 times a week to reduce fluid. The tube-a-grip is about the thickness of socks. Wraps wouldn't work wiith my braces. The Dr. can prescribe and determine the size.
About 15 years ago, (age 75) my left foot became a little swollen and had a sore that would not heal. My doctor sent me to physiotheraphy for treatments. They would apply an ointment and wrap my leg to the knee with two layers of elastic bandages.
I had these treatments twice a week for about three months untill the sore healed. Then they fitted me with a knee high compression stocking and told me I was to wear it during the day, but could take it off at night and they said I would need to continue this forever.
Well, I did as I was told for a couple years and when the stockings (they had given me two) were getting old and tattered, I decided I didn't need to do this anymore. So I quit wearing them and everything was fine for about four years. Then my foot got puffy and a sore appeared that would not heal. So back to physiotheraphy I went.
Same treatment as befor except this time they gave me a series of antibiotics to help the sore heal and emphasized the need to wear the compression stocking during the day forever. I've been doing just that for about eight years now.
The brand I wear is "JOBST". They are a little difficult to put on and take off. Strange that I just need to wear one on my left leg....` ..........That's all I know about compression stockings...............GeorgieBoy
