    MY BATHTUB TRIP

It was during the time when Helen would sometimes refuse to do anything that
    I wanted her to do.

On this particular occasion, I had her in the bathroom and was trying to get
her to sit down on the toilet. She was fighting me and she was still quite strong.

We had been thru this a few times befor and I thought I knew how to force her to
sit down, but this time in the midst of our struggle she gave me a huge push that
sent me stumbling backwards into the bathtub.

As you can imagine, I lit hard on my butt with my legs on the floor over the
edge of the tub. I bumped my head on the tiled wall of the tub but that was a
minor bruse compared to the pain in my rear end.

So now we have a 90 year old guy sitting in a bathtub with his legs over the
side wondering "how the hell am I gonna get out of this thing?" And his wife is
standing there doing what she should have been doing sitting on the toilet.

I knew that the normal way to get up off the floor is to roll over onto my
hands and knees, but how can I do that in a bathtub when I can't even get my legs
    in the tub with me?

Well I can't explain how I did it, but after about 20 minutes of intense effort
I managed it. I was so exausted from the struggle that I had to sit and rest
awhlie befor I could attend to my Dear Helen. Amazingly, she did show some
sympathy for me during all this.

Looking back on it, I can see the humor. But it really started me thinking
about whether I can continue to care for her at home.

I just want to warn all my caregiving friends here to stay out of the bathtub
unless you can step into it with both feet .......With love, GeorgieBoy

GeorgieBoy: That is a cute story and it brought me a moment of laughter. Thank you for posting it. Most of us have had similar experiences, but, mine were not funny.

    Best Regards

Thanks for the giggle, GeorgieBoy! I usually end up on my backside when trying to put on his socks and shoes. He's not much help at all!

Georgieboy, thank for the laugh. It's amazing what they can do. Also thank you for continuing to post even though your journey is over. We gain so much from those who have been before us.
