Thank goodness I followed Vickie's advice and prepared with a waterproof mattress pad. DH had his first nighttime accident.
I will buy another waterproof mattress pad to have so bed can be remade right away.
My question is about bedpads, manufacturer and size. I have heard some of you mention Tena and I would like your words of wisdom on what you feel are the best and what size would be the most practical.
Glad you were prepared, shirley! DH hasn't done that yet, but he did spill a cup of coffee on it one morning! We have coffee in bed every morning. So, I was prepared to! LOL
Don't know anything about the bedpad though. I think Tena is just the underwear.
I ordered Priva plus ultra waterproof sheet protector 54" x 32" from amazon.com. I haven't needed them yet but I actually bought 6 so I could replace them when I needed to (meaning if he wet the bed at night). So far he hasn't yet but I keep one between the sheet and matress pad. I tried to keep one on top of the bottom Sheet but he keeps pulling it off. They seem to be sturdy and are washable.
The one I used I purchased from our local home health medical store. They have a "wing" on each side to tuck under a twin size mattress. I found that it worked OK on top of the sheet on our queen size bed with only one side tucked under the mattress.
And, yes, I would recommend Tena brand underware for nighttime use. They're more absorbant.
I use a plastic shower curtain over the mattress, then the regular quilted mattress pad, then 2 large (30 x 36) disposble pads then the sheet and top it all with with the 32x36 warerproof pad. Some days I have to wash everything down to the shower curtain, plus the 3 blankets on top of him. He wears Traquility Premium Overnight at night and regular Mens Depends during the day. I order all the products from National Incontinence on the net.
My husband has just started having urinary accidents at night. We have always had a waterproof pad on our king size mattress, but I have added a vinyl mattress cover to his side of the bed for extra protection. I am now considering changing our king size mattress for two twin mattresses. I think it would be easier to change out just the one side than have to remake the whole bed. For now, I'm going to order some waterproof bed pads.
