I want to thank everyone who has helped me with this journey of care-giving with Alzheimer's disease. There were times when I just did not know where to turn and so many of you offered suggestions and support.
My dh died last Saturday after 11 yrs with this disease. He never complained or asked "why me". Seeing his body being taken from our home made it final. Even though we were praying for a peaceful and quick death, I was not prepared for the final breath.

We are never prepared for it. You have had a long, hard time of it and have done yeoman service. You are in my prayers as you make the adjustment to have being super responsible to no longer having his care. For me, that was the hardest part: to go from being the most important person in his life to being - just me. Sending love and warm wishes.

Brindle, 11 years is a very very long time and you were a great caregiver. I am so sorry you've lost your beloved husband. I too wish for an end to my husband's suffering but when I pray for that it means he will no longer be with me and I know that pain will be unbearabe.

Brindle, your comment about "seeing his body being taken from the home making things final" really struck a responsive chord with my own experience three years ago. Arms around you in the difficult days ahead, and I hope you'll ultimately be able to find as happy an "after" as I've done.
