I rarely posts comments from my daughter anymore because there isn't much interest. She has her MS and is a memory care specialists. I asked her about falling. Her suggestions: insist on a PT eval to try to determine why they are falling and what adaptive equipment like a geri-chair might help. Sneakers catch on rugs and even the floor. Check for ear wax as build up could interfere with balance. Check toe nail. And of course-evaluate med regimen. Hope this helps.
Thanks Nora. Jeff's problem is he has no balance, has major myoclonic jerks that affect his whole body, and he has stuff going on in his head all the time--stuff which has no relationship to reality and which sometimes informs him that he needs to get up and do something.
One of the rec therapists at his ALF is constantly thinking about this, and has suggested a walker, but the problem is he would not see it, understand it, or be in any way capable of comprehending its use. The geri-chair is, I think, one of those chaise-like wheeled chairs? It would almost be better if he were so physically impaired that you could put him in one and hope he would stay there.
I will look into the ears and toes possibilites. Thanks for helping to look for solutions.
