Well, DH has found a new toy to play with-the ceiling fans in the house. He is tall enough to reach up and spin them (with great force I may add) and says "go round, they go round, they go round..." He did that almost all night last night in his bedroom. When he came down stairs this morning he started doing it with the fan in the family room. I am worried that he might injure himself, particularly on the one in the family room because it has a glass shade. His aide said he was playing with it all night and even was reaching to turn the paddles after he managed to turn the fan on.
Has anyone had this experience and if so what did you do? I guess I have to google how to remove the fan blades so no one gets hurt. I am really getting very tired with him getting into everything, breaking stuff and creating havoc. It never seems to end.
Oh my, LFL! By the way, the blades can be easily removed by just unscrewing them with a screwdriver. My DH is not playing with them, but we have one over our bed in the bedroom. Every night he asks if it works or not. I usually turn it on when I go to bed, because I'm afraid he will start messing with it otherwise. Then he'll ask if that's where the heat come from - I always say yes. He is really obsessed with it. We have them in other rooms - but this is the only one he's concerned with!
Thanks Vickie for the response and confirmation that I should unscrew the blades. This is a dumb question- do I remove them from the motor or from the thingies that hold the blades? Where will I find the screws?
It depends on type of blade, etc. Mine have a "holder" that the blade sits in and then it screws into the holder. Hard to explain. Of course, that will still leave the 'holder' sticking out about 6 inches or so. You should be able to see the screws when you look at it. Not doing a good job of explaining this - sorry. Get up there and have a look ! LOL By removing the blades, it may distract him from fooling with the 'holders'. Clear as mud??\
Yes, do remove. Probably where the blades meet the holder. Look carefully. Take pictures as you remove them if you think putting them back on will be tricky.
