My son was trying to get home from SD to Ohio. He is stranded in Iowa by the blizzard. He cancelled his flights knowing they would be grounded. With the Christmas rush he can't rebook. He got the last rental car but the interstate is still closed. At least he is safe in a motel somewhere in the middle of no where.
My son is still stuck in Iowa. Yesterday he took a back road following a snow plow. Didn't work out too well as Jeff wound up following the driver right into his own driveway. Back to square one. As of this morning son is hoping to get back home tonight. Thanks for your good wishes.
Even though we are all dealing with this terrible disease and our lives have changed dramatically-some from the death of a spouse or some from them slipping away as they spiral into this journey, I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and let you know how grateful I am to each and everyone on this website. You have provided invaluable wisdom, advice, guidance and given me a reliable place where I can get help, no matter what the issue. You have helped me cope with my husband's disease and behaviors and helped me be less afraid of what the future holds. They are the greatest gifts I have received so far on this journey. I am always struck by the true generosity of those of you who have lost a spouse but continue to share your wisdom and experience with those of us still consumed by dementia. May each of you have a peaceful holiday season and New Year.
I am off to hospital for maybe two days to visit with Dado, so will join in when I get back. In the meantime, HAVE A WONDERFUL BLESSED CHRISTMAS, I hope and pray for moments of joy for all of you.
Last December, hb was in the care center. Had a Christmas party there and visited tho', of course, he wasn't totally with it. This December.....no place to visit. (Not totally true; I could visit the care center.) His body is still with Indiana University Department of Anatomical Research, but I can remember Christmas' past. Some family coming for Mexican dinner tonight (homemade tamales, yummy, not made by me but by family in town). God's blessings to all of you. You were awesome partners on my journey. On the new one, too.
Merry Christmas everyone... I'm bringing Reno home for the day..my DD and her best friend will be here to help me. It will be intersting to see how it goes. I am really looking forward to having him home for a while...
Blessings and thank you for all your friendships, care, helpful advice. May the journey next year be a little easier...♥
LFL, your words were written right from the heart, and I think you have summed up how most of us feel. May you all have a blessed holiday season with your loved ones!
