I have been taking a songwriting class where we had, among others, Tom Paxton as one of our guest lecturers--much fun! Anyway, in answer to an assignment to use a "new to me" chord progression, I noodled around with a jazz progression until I came up with this little song, which is basically imagery describing the feeling of driving by Jeff's ALF at night, in the rain, then coming home to an empty house.
Apologies for my vocal and uke playing abilities, but I think anyone with a spouse in placement might recognize the mood of the song. Copy/paste the link if you feel like listening.
Wow, Emily, thanks for sharing your little song with us. So many times we are just sitting quietly in that meloncholy mood, and your song is the perfect background music. thank you
Emily, I also could not get the song, and I would really like to hear it because I also play around with music stuff. Do you mean copy and paste instead of cut and paste? ..............GeorgieBoy
Emily, thank you for sharing your lovely song. It was so evocative, I could almost feel the rain...and maybe a splash of a tear or two. It was beautiful.
Em--couldn't connect with that site either, but so glad you've found an outlet for your emotions. Mine seems to be Zumba. It helps me so much to have that to look forward to everyday and all my cares go away for an hour while I dance. I highly recommend it and there are even Zumba Gold classes for seniors.
I don't know why the link is inaccessible to some computers. Must have to do with operating system and plug-in technicalities which are beyond me. Well, if you're on Facebook, you can access it through my page: (scroll down to where I'm talking about songwriting and the "itsraining" link.)
It's an MP3 file where my PC is using QuickTime to play it.
If I use the Google/search page and enter it there I don't get it. But if I click on top of the page on the address and backspace out the current address, paste it in there, and hit the enter key - it does.
Emily......... ....I think I should give you my two cents worth about your songs. Your song "It's Raining" is really great. Both the song and the production. Your voice is just perfect for that litle tune. Quiet and peacefull and you seem to be blessed with a sence of perfect pitch. You could be a celebrity!....The format for the song turned out to be mpeg2/4 which is really not mp3 although it is very small in size (2MB). Evedently Some OuickTime players will play it but mine would not; nor would three other players that I tried. However it was easy to convert it to MP3 (5MB) with an audio converter. ....Now I want to tell you about your other song "Monster Dinner" which I found on your Facebook page. The lyrics are very cute and colorfull and I think you altered your voice to fit the song and again you did it well. However I guess you know that the ukelele was too loud, I'm guessing that you were using a little Iphone or video camera which would give you no control over the mix. ....To sum it up, I would have to say that you're as good as any musician that comes down the pike and I hope you keep on producing. I have both your songs on my desktop and can play them with just one click. ....Incidentally, Emily, quit knocking your ukelele ability. You're Very good. .................With love and good wishes for everybody.....GeorgieBoy...
GeorgieBoy! Wow, what nice things you've said. And I trust your opinion, because you're spot on about the Monster Dinner recording--both in how I recorded it (small digital camera, no external mic,) and in that I was probably singing too high for my voice. Working on that. Here's the thing--the chords most common to the key of Bb--(Bb, Eb, F) are harder to play. Well, not F, but the others. So my fingers have some work to do so I can re-do some things in a lower key. Thanks for weighing in.
Emily, I somehow missed this on your facebook page...it's very beautiful. Both the words and the tune. Got me choked up a bit to be truthful..... Thank you for sharing with us ((hugs))
