According to today's Alzheimer Weekly Medicare has approved physical, speech, and occupational therapy for dementia patients without the need for improvement. It can be for stabilization, or even to slow deterioration. See: alzheimerweekly.com/2012/11/medicare-approves-speech-physical.html

That sounds like good news for many of the people on here. Kind of a an early Christmas gift.

I read this awhile back and thought how helpful that is. Too late for us, though; hb was dropped from therapies because there was no improvement. Would help w/balance and some other issues I'm certain, though.

I do hope this will help. I don't know why, but DH did qualify for physical therapy back in the summer and the PT came to our house 3X week. Medicare approved it and paid for it. However, it only helped him while the PT was here - he immediately forgot what he was taught as soon as the PT left.

My DH was dropped from PT and OC after he broke his hip, because due to his dementia, he was dropped from both therapies. I thought he was improving.. and the exercises the PT guys had him doing were helping. Too late for us, but maybe it will help some of your guys.
